VEGAN!  I am so thrilled that the sak now offers vegan handbags. They have added this in addition to their eco-friendly line of durable beauties.

The Vegan line, called Freebird is made using only man made leather.  The bags are unique, but no gaudy frills like some of the bags I see in the fashion world.  Unique, eclectic and durable.  That is what I like in a bag!  The bags are completey affordable too.  Priced from $48, and $55 with one bag being $62.  i like that in a bag too!

Stay tuned, I will be featuring a few of their eco-friendly bags in the next week!

Dancing Dingo Review and Giveaway

October 6, 2009 by Karissa

dancingdingotextcody2Sophistication Unleashed

Dancing Dingo Luxury Soap was created in Austin, Texas, by Kathy Cumberland Goodwin. Kathy had been in the engineering field for over 20 years, and one day began to notice that her life seemed to be passing by at a greater rate of speed than in previous days. Kathy was secretly burning to discover what in life would make her feel truly happy and fulfilled; what was her passion?

While searching for answers one beautifully starlit Texas night, Kathy was momentarily distracted by Margaret, the Dancing Dingo dog. Margaret happens to be a dog who would rather hop around on her hind legs checking out the world above the floor, than walking on all fours. Looking into Margaret’s happy and smiling eyes, Kathy realized her answer: happiness lies in doing what feeds your soul, like Margaret’s dog dancing. For Kathy, happiness would be found in having a company that encourages women to treat themselves well and have fun with products that are both natural and good for you!

Today that’s what Dancing Dingo Luxury Soap is all about: treating yourself well, both physically and mentally, with natural and good-for-you products. Whether it’s soaking in a soothing botanical Bath Tea, or stretching out for a cat nap in crisp cool linen sheets scented with French Lavender Linen Spray, Dancing Dingo is committed to creating scrumptious products that make you feel pampered and glad to be woman. Celebrating our ‘Sophistication Unleashed!’ motto, Dancing Dingo boasts of products that are good for you and lusciously scented.

Life is all about how you choose to live it! This is the true essence of Dancing Dingo.

The name of this company makes me want to write a jingle.  Isn’t it perfect for a silly T.V. Commercial?

Just take a look at their dancing Dingo,

Dingo5And now you try and tell me your kids wouldn’t want to get cleaned up by soap with a dancing dingo, with a pink tutu? Lucky for us adults, Dancing Dingo carries more then kids soaps, but every toiletry us ladies covet, stuff for men, pets, and even babies!

Most of their products are Vegan, but all of them are cruelty free. Plus they are all paraben and sulphate free!

Dancing Dingo believes that offering naturally-good-for-you body products makes naturally happy, healthy people! And at this stage of the game?  There really is no reason to settle for anything less!

They offer a wide range of natural and earth friendly products for every member of the family. For the natural baby Dancing Dingo offers their Dingo Baby line of gentle and skin-friendly essentials. They also offer a line of grooming products for your best friend called Dog De-funkifier. Plus they donate a portion all sales of their Dog De-Funkifier to the Animal Trustees of Austin.

180-bunnylogoDingoBlueA copy

Dancing Dingo is approved by Leaping Bunny and PETA. Plus they are eco-friendly, by recycling and using minimal and biodegradable materials (wherever possible) in all packaging. Dancing Dingo even won the, 2008 Green With ENVY Award as one of Texas Top 30 Eco-friendly companies.

Once I stumbled upon Dancing Dingo, I knew I had to write about them here.  I fell in love with comfy site, and all the products that you can see are made with love.  And frankly, anyone with dogs as mascots and spokespeople dogs, are always at the head of my list!

Coconut Kukui

Dancing Dingo sent me a few items to sample and review for you here on Prissy Green.  I have always been a huge Sandalwood fan, but it can be pretty pricey to purchase and bottle for home use, so I always rely on a “master” to do the mixing for me.  I didn’t go wrong with choosing the Sandalwood Vanilla Coconut Kukui Skin Conditioning Spray.  The scent is simply stunning. I promise it will stop any man in their tracks.  And the oil itself is so moisturizing but because they use fractionated coconut oil, it is light, and almost a dry oil.  Not greasy.  I pair this with my Cocoa and Shea Hand and Body Lotion, in Sandalwood Lavender, and smell fresh all day!

I only use the Coconut & Kukui oil in my driest spots, elbows, ankles, feet and back, so it promises to last me a long time!  The ingredients?  Fractionated Coconut oil and Kukui oil.  that is it!  Plus the essential oils to make the scent of your choice!

Lotion

I am so glad I have two products that have the gorgeous Sandalwood Lavender Scent, because there are times with an oil spray doesn’t work.  And that is when their Cocoa & Shea Hand and Body Lotion cames in “handy.”  I love to keep this by the bed, so I can rub it into my hands and feet before bed.  Although the lotion can take dry skin out, it isn’t greasy, and tends to sink it rather quickly, so it would be great for those of us that type all day!

My new go to lip care of late is Dancing Dingo’s Botanical Lip Treatment in Lavender Ylang Ylang. One touch of this, and your dry lips are history!  Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, jojoba oil, Rosehip oil and bees wax this is certainly a luxury item with out the price tag for your lips.  I have even been putting it around my cuticles when they seem to get dry.  The texture is smooth and silky.

chamomile hydrosol

Lastly, I was also sent their moisturizing Neroli Hydrosol.  Neroli, also known as Orange Blossom, is one of the most versatile hydrosols available. Neroli is astringent making it useful for oily and acne prone skin types. Neroli Hydrosol is wonderful as a facial toner, fragrant body splash, and facial moisturizer to spritz on throughout the day. I enjoy this just after I finish my makeup, seems to set it, and yet also keep my mineral makeup from getting to dry.  I am also guilty of using it after I shower, and before I have applied anythng else!

BabyButterconditioner2de-funkifier-cologne140ClayFrenchGreen

Dancing Dingo also carries perfume misters, shampoo & conditioner, all your facial care needs and even men’s shaving needs!  Plus an endless supply of hand crafted soaps, and I promise, there is a scent to please any nose!

Dancing Dingo has been kind enough to offer a $35 Gift Certificare to one Prissy Green Winner, and also to offer a Soap and 4oz. Lotion to two runner up winners!  Winner chooses scents of course!

To enter, go shop at Dancing Dingo, tell what would you buy if you won the gift certificate?

Make It Monday! Vegan Lip Balm and Vegan Lip Serum

October 5, 2009 by Karissa
Filed under Recipes: Home, Skin, Food

I am not sure if I will ever be brave enough to be a Vegan, but I sure do respect y’all to pieces!  I have been a vegetarian before, but I wouldn’t call myself one now.  Although I have sworn to give up everything but fresh caught fish.  Even milk and cheese.  I will most likely give in on cheese and eggs every so often, especially eggs, as I am not cutting out items made with them.  And I love me some cheese!  But since starting the So Cal Cleanse, I just feel so much better not eating these “sluggish digestive system causing” foods.

So with myself explain a little, I want to give my Vegan Readers a special Make It Monday Treat!

Vegan Lip Balm

Love these for lip balm! fits neatly in pocket

Love these for lip balm! fits neatly in pocket

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Avocado Oil, Almond Oil or Olive Oil
  • 1 oz. Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 1.2 oz. of Candelilla Wax
  • 1/4 tsp. Rosemary Extract
  • few drops of Vitamin E Oil
  • few drops of essential oils you want for smell and taste (citrus oils are great!  tangerine, orange, grapefruit and lime!)  (and/or you can use flavor oils!)

You will need either a double boiler, or use a pan and a glass measuring cup with a pour spout!

Melt the candelilla wax in a double boiler or use a glass jar/bowl inside of a soup pan, over low heat.

Once melted add the remaining ingredients except for the essential oils. Heat through then remove from heat.  Now add the essential oil – stir well and pour immediately into lip balm tubes or containers.  If mixture starts to solidify before you’re finished pouring, heat for a few seconds in the micro.  You can also add flavor additives if you so choose.  Add these at the same time as the Essential oils.

Recipe makes about 5 ounces of lip balm.  That is quite a bit, but whenever I make balms I hand them out like candy!  So either cut your recipe down or give as gifts!

Enjoy!  Feel free to color these with any vegan lip colors you already have too!  Just add those to the pot when heating.

Neroli Anti-aging Lip Serum

All natural ingredients and Neroli and Seabuckthorn for treating, and pampering the lips.
Neroli’s aroma is a wonderful blend of floral with undertones of citrus. Feel free to replace Neroli with another soothing essential oil, such as Rosewood or Carrot Seed.  Seabuckthorn has become a newcomer to the world of anti-aging, but is setting some great trends!

Recipe makes 3 lip gloss tubes or (0.75 ozs) Don’t buy these!  I know you have some laying in your purse, or ina drawer that you never wear, wash them out really well, and use those, no need to waste!  Unless of course you are gifting these.

Neroli

Neroli

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Liquid Shea Oil
  • 1 oz Castor Oil
  • 2 tsps. Carnauba Wax
  • 6 drops of SeaBuckthorn oil (berry, seed or combination)  If you have the capsules from Sibu Beauty that would be great!
  • 6 drops of Neroli Essential Oil
  • drops of Vitamin E Oil

Melt the wax in in a double boiler, or use a soup pot, and a glass measuring cup with pour spout.  Add the shea and castor oils. Mix well. Make sure you keep stirring at this point.  When it has all combined, remove from heat.  When it has cooled slightly, add the Vitamin E oil, Neroli and Seabuckthorn oils. Before it has cooled completely, pour into lip gloss tubes.  Texture will be somewhat like store bought honey.

Extremely nourishing, and healthy for the lips.  Use this in place of shiny lip glosses, or apply every night before bed.

If you want a chance at winning some Seabuckthorn goodies, come visit my twitter party!!  Read more at the Sibu Twitter Party!  (party October 6th at 9pm EST!)

White Sands New Vegan Shampoo and Conditioner Review and Giveaway (CLOSED)

September 26, 2009 by Karissa

White Sands products use cutting-edge science combined with natural botanicals to make each formula dynamic and unique. Our products use ingredients to create heat shields, which, in turn, behave like a second skin. As this shield protects your hair from UV Rays and thermal stress, hair is finally allowed to breathe. White Sands products even supply ultimate protection with a moisture balance offering lasting hold and humidity resistance.

White Sands blends natural botanicals, such as Heliogenol, lemon grass, and chamomile, to provide hair color protection and color enhancement. These high-performance formulas transform tresses into beautiful, flawless hair.

100% Vegan and Sulfate Free cleansing duo to moisturize hair from the inside out, while providing superior hair color protection

As White Sands 100% Vegan, Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner by White Sands is an all natural, sulfate, silicone, and cruelty free cleansing duo powered by Wheat and Silk Amino Acids. The line excels at moisturizing dry, damaged hair from the inside out, while providing superior hair Hydrating ShampooHydrating Conditionercolor protection with each use.

White Sands Hydrating Shampoo will delicately cleanse and maintain an essential moisture balance for extremely dry, thirsty hair. Tresses that have become lifeless due to excessive styling and over processing will feel instantly revitalized and renewed. Easily erase the unwanted signs of frizz and cuticle stress, while improving hydration levels and strand strength.

White Sands Hydrating Conditioner is a light weight crème enriched with essential moisture to reverse the unwanted effects of extremely coarse, dry, and unruly hair. Soothe and nourish over stressed tresses to reveal amazingly smooth, soft, and silky locks.  This ultra weightless formula will not weigh hair down while styling to create an irresistible look full of ultimate vigor and shine.

By correcting the hair’s internal moisture balance, White Sands Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner create a guard against humidity, creating the foundation for the perfect frizz free style. To further the pairs’ amazing results, Wheat Amino Acids promote moisture when applying hot tools, while Silk Amino Acids’ cationic and anionic properties create a positive charge to damaged hair fibers in order to polish tresses for high shine.

Color Intelligent: Ensures protection of color treated hair and neutralizes the oxidative radicals generated by daily UV exposure, sealing in a moisture balance to create instantly shiny and healthy hair without residue or build up.

Clear Micro Shield: Secures hair color and locks in a balanced, self-adjusting moisture rendering the hair weightless.

3 reasons why you are color secure:

·   Color Intelligent
·   Sulfate Free
·   Clear Micro Shield

Now I freely admit, I was not using this or testing this out for color treatment!  But this formula is extremely hydrating and lathers really well.  The shampoo left my hair conditioned enough, that I even wondered if I should bother with conditioner!  Of course I still do, and the conditioner adds a great shine to my hair.

I have one of each for one Prissy Green reader!  A hydrating Shampoo and Hydrating Conditioner.  To enter, go to White Sands, and tell me another product you would like to try out!

Sahale Snacks Review and 2 Day Giveaway

September 16, 2009 by Karissa

GROUP2I have always been a snacker.  Barely eat all day, then after dinner my appetite starts.  I try to only stick with healthy balanced foods, but sometimes that can get boring!  Then I was sent Sahale Snacks. Wow, talk about some new fresh flavors! Sahale Snacks are premium, gourmet nut and fruit and nut mixes. With flavors like: Valdosta Blend which is black-peppered pecans, sweet cranberries, and orange zest. To Sing Buri , which is, Cashews with pineapple, peanuts, lemongrass and curry.
And then more simple, but done the Sahale way, Almonds with cranberries, honey and sea salt.

Plus Sahale Snacks are a balanced snack, containing protein, fiber, fat and carbohydrates, they will give one a sense of fullness that will last longer than a carbohydrate snack would alone. In other words, Sahale Snacks will carry you through to the next meal.

VALDOSTA_3D

I really enjoyed them. I liked the sweet varieties as much as the more hearty, spiced varieties. They don’t miss a beat with an ingredient, and don’t skimp on quality.

Craig’s favorite was the Almond PB&J
.  Made with whole almonds, then added peanuts, and strawberries and raspberries, with a slight touch of glaze.  yum!

I have a Gift Pack for one lucky winner!  The winner will receive a package of the Glazed Cashews with Pomegranate + Vanilla , the Soledad Nut Blend , and a Sahale T-shirt!

To enter, head over to Sahale and tell me which blend sounds best to you!

Ayala’s Herbal Water Review and 2 Day Giveaway

September 16, 2009 by Karissa

I know plastic bottles are bad.  I really never have them in the house, but I break the rules for reviews, and really we all do need something besides plain ol water every once in awhile.

I have found my match.  I literally drank all 12 bottles that I had for this review in 2 days.  I probably would have drank them in 1 day, but I didn’t want Craig to think I had lost my mind, he thinks that enough as it is.
HW_Logo_USDA

It was Ayala’s Herbal WaterNo Preservatives, No Calories, Nothing Artificial.  Pure goodness.

The Herbal Water story begins in the spring of 2005, in the garden of Dr. Ayala. A passionate cook, trained pediatrician, talented artist and lifelong vegetarian, Dr. Ayala has spent years exploring healthy, tasty ways to feed children and adults.

Seeking an alternative to sugar-laden and artificially flavored beverages, Dr. Ayala created her own blends of herb infused waters that magically satisfy thirst and restore the spirit. Among her family and friends, Dr. Ayala’s herbal waters became famous for their uniquely refreshing tastes and aromas.

Full of flavor yet free of calories, artificial sweeteners and artificial chemicals, these naturally fragrant beverages evoke happy feelings, like a breeze in a sunny garden.

HW_Group_image1The growing demand for these tasty herbal waters led Dr. Ayala and her husband Albert to bring Ayala’s Herbal Water to everyone.

Ayala’s Herbal Water is the first nationally available organically certified enhanced flavored water made with all organic ingredients. Each Herbal Water blend is all-natural and sets a new standard for healthy beverages: zero calories, zero artificial sweeteners, flavors and colors, and zero chemical preservatives. Our water comes from an Artesian Well in Virginia.

Nothing but great taste from pure water, infused with the finest natural herbs from around the world, kept fresh in a beautiful bottle for your enjoyment.

ECOCERT  certified ORGANIC.  gotta love that.  And if you friend them on Facebook or on Twitter you get a code to get $5 off your order.  Plus they do free ground shipping, so you will get a case for $19.00.  Not too shabby for organic, naturally flavored healthy, water.  I mean they can’t say it, but I can, there has to be some health benefits to herbally infused water right?  People take herbs to fight illness, and ward off illness and an innumerable amount of things.

31mtpZeHRGL_SL500_AA280_PIbundle-12I am completely hooked on the Lavender Mint.  It is fresh, has a great flavor, that really has incredible depth that I wasn’t expecting.  How I described it to a friend over the phone, was that it tastes like what holy water at Yoga Class should taste like.  not that there is such a thing, but if there was…. This drink would be it!

The Lavender Mint is so great to make tea with. Really spruced up my teas from Mountain Rose Herbs. Not that needed it, but it was a refreshing change of pace.

There other flavors are:
Lemongrass Mint Vanilla
Lemon Verbena Geranium
Cloves Cardamon Cinnamon
Cinnamon Orange Peel
Ginger Lemon Peel

I didn’t do this, but I bet the Cloves Caradmon Cinnamon would be GREAT to make a pot of coffee with. YUM!

I can say that I truly enjoyed them all, but I probably wouldn’t buy the Lemon Verbena Geranium again. It was a little flowery for me. I think second choice would be a toss up between the Lemongrass Mint Vanilla and the Ginger LemonPeel. They all just taste really clean, not earthy in a bad way, just in a clean fresh way.  I think they are drinks that after a long hard day, give you some comfort and allows you to you relax and unwind.  I don’t get that with other waters.  But then again, most waters don’t have herbs to flavor them, they have artificial sweetners, and fake vitamins!

HW_bottle_lineup_wit#71E69BAnd of course, Ayala’s Herbal Water wants to give you a chance to try it as well! They are offering a Tye Dye T-shirt (you pick your size) and gift boxed 6 pack of Herbal Water!  To enter, tell me how you try to get your 8 glasses of H2O a day!

Grateful Body Skin Care, Review and Giveaway

September 7, 2009 by Karissa

hc8.productcrowd100% Natural and Chemical Free.  Cruelty Free, and not just their finished product, but all the ingredients, Green America: Approved for People and the Planet.  Every product is certified vegan.  United Plant Savers: Using and Protecting Native Medicinal Plants.

Grateful Body is a family owned and operated company in Berkeley, California. They’ve been making pure botanical skin care products since 1998, because at that time it was even more difficult to buy safe and effective skin care products, they established their own high ingredient standards at the very beginning and have enjoyed maintaining them ever since (there’s still virtually no consumer-safety regulation of the body care industry). The only thing that made sense to to them was to limit our ingredients to those that are 100% biologically appropriate, so they never had to wean ourselves from using the convenient synthetics that are so common.

Grateful Body believes Mother Nature herself would heartily approve of their skin care “recipes” – and they will always believe that skin care should be nourishing to the body as a whole as well as useful in improving one’s complexion. There’s no separation between our skin, our health, and our environment, and they make sure that GratefulBody products benefit all three of those essential aspects of our lives.

Grateful Body promises to bring you the safest, most effective and luxurious skin care possible. That isos4-whitebowl why GratefulBody conscientiously seeks out the most vital and pure botanical ingredients found on this green planet. GratefulBody products deliver profound support and nourishment for optimal skin health and a beautiful complexion.

A great irony of modern skin care is that most commercially available products stress the skin and body and pressure our environment, and there is much deception and exploitation in the presentation of these products. Examining skin care ingredients today is like taking a tour through the Science Hall of Shame. Grateful Body considers Mother Nature to be the ultimate chemist, and we do everything the way we think she’d want us to.

Vital and whole ingredients are the key to all GratefulBody formulations. They are harvested from intact ecological systems and abundant in healing phytonutrients. Each product is handcrafted from these 100% natural, dynamic ingredients; made fresh in small batches at our facility in beautiful northern California.

GratefulBody has developed its own ethical standards for creating skin care products, following strict guidelines of integrity and responsibility. On all levels, our direction is toward cooperation and connection instead of isolation and fragmentation. They make their products from whole plant ingredients, using NONE of the thousands of hazardous substances commonly used in body care products:

NO chemical or synthetic colors, stabilizers, thickeners or extenders
NO synthetic preservatives, including the parabens, phenoxyethanol or grapefruit seed extract
NO GMOs or genetically modified ingredients
NO chemical or synthetic fragrances or fragrance neutralizers
NO cosmeceuticals, bioceuticals, or other synthetic compounds including peptides and ceramides
NO alpha lipoic acid, alpha or beta hydroxy acids, hyaluronic acids, DMAE or vitamin esters
NO plant substances devitalized by corporate agricultural methods or genetic engineering
NO synthetic isolates or other synthetic replications of plant compounds
NO ingredients subjected to extreme heat, over-processing or chemical solvents
NO petroleum, coal tar or formaldehyde by-products or industrial phthalates
NO wheat, gluten, corn or dairy ingredients
NO testing on animals or sourcing from companies that do
NO animal products (all products are suitable for vegans)

RAF-2

Have you seen the newsletters from Grateful Body that I have been posting?  They are so informative, I just can’t help but share.  My absolute favorite product that Grateful body sent to me, is their Aphrodities Feast.  It is a major whole food wrinkle fighter serum. With Kudzu (yes the crazy vine in the south) that has natural anti-inflammatory properties, and makes skin smooth and supple, as well as Sasafras, by stimulating circulation, draining congestion, resolving toxicosis and reducing eczema, sassafras is a power-packed nutritive botanical for supporting all varieties of complexions.  This has left my skin so smooth and soft, and you can add it to any other skin care system you are utilizing now, it is not a moisturizer, although if you are really oily, it may work as they only thing you need.  You only need a tiny bit, so the 1fl oz would last forever!

BMO-2
The other item I I love, and it a best seller at Grateful Body is, their Midnight Oil.  I have been using this on my cuticles, and my feet, and above the scent, the moisture is just stellar.  My cuticles haven’t been peeling like they usually do, and it sinks in so fast, but with leaving moisture behind.
Avocado Oil - This sublime treasure of an oil is highly prized for its nourishing properties and its ability to penetrate and soften the skin. High in essential fatty acids, mono-unsaturated fats and vitamin E, avocado excels as a non-allergenic oil that protects the skin from excess sun exposure. Buttery, thick and a delightful light green color, avocado is especially suitable for dry and sensitive skin.

Black Cumin Seed Oil - Praised and venerated in ancient cultures, used by Egyptian pharaohs and routinely prescribed by famed Greek physician Dioscorides; the oil from the precious black seed of the middle east is possibly the most esteemed medicinal oil in history. Containing hundreds of active constituents, the complex chemical structure of black cumin seed is one of the most efficacious oils for protecting and sustaining human skin tissue.

Evening Primrose Oil - The secret of this elegant oil from the yellow-flowered primrose lies in the seed, which contains one of nature’s highest concentrations of GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid). This essential fatty acid helps restore the youthfulness of skin and increases the presence of beneficial anti-inflammatory agents.

Since I am so acne prone I can’t use this on my face, but if you are mature or have dry skin, you really need to try this out.  coupled with the Aphroditite’s Feast, you will have smooth as silk, teenage skin in no time!

Grateful Body has products for Rosacea, Anti-fungal’s, Toners, Cleansers, Men’s and even an Acne Treatment Regimen.  They are so knowledgeable about skincare, it is awe inspiring.
