Depth Body. Beauty from the Sea Review
Depth was introduced in 2008, but the idea for Depth was born a decade prior, when Tim Schaeffer and Korie Johnson met in graduate school, where they both studied to become marine biologists. Tim and Korie shared a love for the ocean and they soon found, for each other.

After graduate school Korie built her career as a marine biologist, protecting the marine habitats of endangered species, while Tim went to business school and subsequently worked in the natural products industry developing personal-care products that are gentle on both people and the planet. One of the many reasons Tim created the Depth brand is his strong desire to bring the beauty, abundance and therapeutic benefits of marine botanicals to consumers through their use of Depth products.
Today, Tim and Korie remain strongly committed to preserving marine life, so a percentage of the sale of every Depth product goes to Camp SEA Lab, a non-profit camp in Monterey Bay, California that offers authentic marine experiences to underserved children, instilling in them a sense of love and respect for the sea.
Tim and Korie, who married in 2004, have two young sons, Benjamin and Calvin. When they’re not working, it’s likely you’ll find the Schaeffers on the sand at the water’s edge, appreciating the sun, sand and sea, marveling at what lives beneath the surface.
When I first opened my package from Depth, I reached right for the Depth Bay Coconut Hand Soap, twisted off the pump and inhaled. Such a light and airy coconut scent. Some get it wrong and try and make is smell like a tropical sweet drink, but Depth has it right, just balanced, earthy and sweet. It also has a great lather, that actually cleans under my nails with out too much effort and leaves my hands clean, but not tight. I wash my hands a lot no matter what time of year it is. And I am planning on ordering a couple more bottles so I can have it in each room I wash up in.
Depth products contain 100% natural aroma blends, a combination of pure essential oils and what are known as “natural aromatics.” Through a simple distillation process, natural aromatics are isolated from a range of botanicals and then blended with pure essential oils to achieve fresher and more complex aroma blends, completely naturally.
- 70% Organic
- SLS Free
- 100% Natural Aroma Blends
- 100% Vegetarian
- Artificial Color Free
- No Animal Testing
I also asked to try out Depth’s Drench Hydrating Shampoo and their Immererse Daily Conditioner. Both have this lovely, clean scent, that is really light and sorta just smells like a sunny clean day. No leftover rainy smells, just fresh and clean. For being natural, it has an awesome lather, and really cleans my hair with out much scrubbing plus leaves it full of moisture but not weighed down. Really balanced. If there is one thing I am picky about it is hair care Depth passes my testing with flying colors.
Infused with a unique blend of sea botanicals, certified organic aloe vera, Sea Lettuce, mango butter, sea weed extracts and natural emollients, Depth Shampoos and Conditioners are ultra-hydrating, refreshing, and moisturizing. Plus with such unique ingredients they really stand out from the pack.

For nearly 40 years, Head Organics has been the natural leader in organic hair care since developing its ground-breaking, pH-balanced, FD&C dye-free shampoos and conditioners. Today, Head Organics continues to write the formula for truly organic, earth-friendly shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that keep the environment as clean and protected as your hair.

What you won’t find is harmful phtalates, paraben, disodium EDTA, benzyl alcohol and sodium laurel sulfate.
Since planting those first organic roots in hair care, Head Organics has built a heritage on personal care that equates to personal responsibility by maintaining the strictest nationally certified organics and OASIS (Organic and Sustainable Industry Standards) practices. With world-class R&D behind it and only the finest natural raw ingredients inside, Head Organic products never sacrifice and only deliver the highest performance in hair care. Head Organics strives to create products that are in line with nature, believing in a diligent, forward moving effort to make less of an impact on our beautiful planet. Here are just a few of the many things they do on a daily basis to make a difference:
- All of their packaging is either made of recycled materials or 100% recyclable
- Head Organics print with soy ink
- They use only biodegradable, non-toxic ingredients
- Their products and ingredients are never tested on animals
- They use local suppliers
- Operate a paper free office with a strict recycling program
- They use only sustainable products for our shipping needs
Head Organics products are free of animal derived products, all of their products contain natural, plant-derived ingredients. Plus, they’re completely cruelty-free making our plants Vegetarian and Vegan friendly.
The first product I tried from the Head Organics line was their Leave-In Conditioning Spray. Leaves my hair soft and silky, not waxy. Huge points there. I do have to be careful not to use too much, but I think that is with all leave-ins. I tend to want them to work like an anti-frizz product, but they aren’t! Definitely my favorite of the line!
And it has a really really light scent. No overpowering what scent I choose to wear for the day! And it doesn’t change the color of my hair like some leave-ins. It does all of this by utilizing plant based glycerin, and soy proteins.
Oh, one last thing I was impressed with? No cap! It has a cool locking mechanism, so you can seal it, making it perfect for travel, the pool etc. No more lost caps! The Leave-In Retails for only $13.50.
Next I gave their 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner a shot. I can never find a 2-1 that actually cleans, or
actually conditions. It is usually too much of one, and not enough of the other. This isa gentle cleanse, so you might need a couple tries if you had a BIG hair night the night before. But it is perfect my hair. Nice boost of conditioner, and if my hair feels dry, I use a couple sprays of the leave-in. Perfect for travel this past weekend. Everyone could use it! Most women are going to need a little more moisture, at least at their ends, so do keep that in mind.I don’t remember how large my bottle is, and Craig is asleep, so I can’t go peek, but it is a nice sized bottle, and only $16.50. I would attempt to say, 16 oz?
And the 2-in-1 is an award winner!
- Cranberry Fruit Extract – features anti-oxidant properties to purify hair
- Rosemary Leaf Extract – provides hydration and moisture to hair
- Jojoba Seed Oil – acts as a carrier for moisture agents

Simply Organic Review and Giveaway
Simply Organic is a family owner and run business that supplies it’s plant based hair care, skin care, bath & body and lifestyle accessories to some of the finest salons, boutiques, hotels and spas around the world! The are based and created out of Spring Park, Minnesota. (I love Minnesota!) Each product seems to have Olive Leaf Leaf Extract in it, and their label has a photo of the Olive tree, stating “The Tree of Life.”

Simply Organics Mission is to to share with their clients new ways to incorporate healthier choices into their everyday lives. They are consistently striving to research and develop the safest, highest quality products available while introducing unparalleled wellness information to the professional salon and spa community. All of their products are certifies organic.
Simply Organics main focus is hair care, and after sampling thier Everyday Hair & Scalp Wash and Everyday Hair & Scalp Rinse I know why!
It is gentle, I can use it all the way down to my ends (which for black and blue reasons is important right now). It is a remarkable shampoo for every other day use, and my hair is illustrious and shiny even on that second day! Truth be told, it is even shiny (not from oil) on the third day before I hope in the shower. I can tell it has been giving some life and strength back to my hair, plus it gives added protection even before applying conditioner. It smells delicious, like a a vanilla wafer dipped in lemon pie. Plus being certified organic isn’t too shabby either right?
So I have been following that up with a dose of their Everyday Hair & Scalp Rinse. I think it is far to often that women don’t nourish their scalps. I apply a natural oil to my scalp at least one night a week, and let it soak in over night, and when i condition, I apply a little to my roots too, close the cuticle baby! The conditioner is responsible for replacing any essential oils that might be lost in washing your hair. So important. Plus, any moisture that might be lost on your scalp, after all the scalp is skin, and you always moisturize your skin right? It also aides in protecting and strengthening. I can feel it working, love the avocado oil in it. Normally if I were to pick out my own conditioner, I always go for the heavy hitters. But this was actually spot on for my hair right now. There is so much added weight to my ends with the crappy color, that my hair is weighed down. This conditioner is effective, but yet light weight, plus it smells like oranges.
A few days ago I told you that I had stopped using body washes altogether, for a couple of reasons, one was the waste, I don’t need an extra bottle being thrown in the recycling bin, but two, I love handmade bar soap! I would take a picture of how many I am using, or rather how many I have opened right now, but it is embarrassing! After using Simply Organics Everyday Moisurizing Body Wash those bar soaps are getting a new partner in the rotation game! Great “latherablity” (nice word) and leaves my skin nice and balanced. A little pricey for my pocket book at $34 for 16.5 oz. It did win a 2009 Natural Solutions, Beauty with a Conscience Award though, so that tells you how good it is! They do have Shea Bar soap, but I haven’t gotten a chance to try it out.
The Everyday Moisturizing Body Lotion. I use a lot of oils at night to keep my dry skin hydrated, but during the day, I want something less greasy! This is deep moisture, with out the heaviness and greasiness. Made with olive oil, shea butter and safflower oil it is great that they were able to keep it that way!
I have TWO prizes to giveaway. Each will receive an Amenity Gift Set which is a great way to try all the products listed above plus the Lavender bar soap, you will receive:
