Mountain Rose Herbs, the premier provider of competitively priced, sustainably-harvested organic herbal products, is taking their eco-efforts to new heights by introducing the nation’s most progressive carpooling and bicycling to work program that features cash incentives.Carpool

“We pay our employees in cash for carpooling and bicycling to work. To our knowledge, no other company is offering a cash incentive that reaches the same caliber as ours in the United States,” says Shawn Donnille, Mountain Rose Herbs’ Operations Manager & Director of Quality Control.

A huge concern to environmentalists, excess automobile usage is a primary contributor to global warming. In fact, according to the Environmental Defense Fund, U.S. autos emit more than 333 million tons of carbon dioxide each year, more than one-fifth of the nation’s total carbon dioxide emissions. Carpooling and bicycling programs–like the one introduced by Mountain Rose Herbs–can make a big difference in lessening our environmental footprint.

The program pays staff members who carpool to work 12-cents per mile for each passenger, and for those who bicycle to work, 20-cents per mile. In addition to the cash reward for each mile, Mountain Rose Herbs also offers a yearly $500 cash bonus to the staff member who has logged the most miles.

The carpool and bicycling to work incentive is just one program in a long line of forward-thinking sustainability programs from Mountain Rose Herbs. As a “Zero Waste” company, Mountain Rose Herbs goes to great lengths to ensure that materials which might be regarded as waste are recycled, re-used, composted, reclaimed, or brought back into the production cycle. When Mountain Rose Herbs adopted a “Zero Waste” policy, they went from producing about 3,300 gallons of waste per month (a normal amount for a processor) to producing between 80 to 100 gallons per month–the same as a typical four-person household. All invoices, flyers, brochures, and other paper materials are printed on 100-percent post consumer materials and all facilities are powered by renewable energy.

Because of Mountain Rose Herb’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, they have received numerous awards, including Co-op America’s People’s Choice Award for Green Business of the Year, Provender Alliance’s “The Evolution in Motion Award” and the “Bold Steps Towards Sustainability Award.”
Since 1987, Mountain Rose Herbs, based in Eugene, Oregon, has been known for its uncompromising commitment to organic agriculture, sustainable business practices, and steadfast focus on the pure aesthetics and freshness of botanical products. Their wide range of product offerings includes bulk herbs and spices, aromatherapy and essential oils, tea and tea supplies, and natural health and body care. Every aspect of product creation is carried out in accordance to strict quality control and organic handling procedures by employees who care. From their fragrant and beyond-fresh organic herbs and spices, to soothing essential oils and delicious herbal teas, the quality and integrity of Mountain Rose Herbs is unparalleled–with smiles guaranteed.

Mountain Rose Herbs has been my go to shop for clays for making masks since 1992. No internet at the time, so placed my orders via telephone. Times have certainly changed!
Great spot to order teas and tea supplies for the hard to buy for tea drinking this holiday season!

Mountain Rose Herbs

Mountain Rose Herbs has been a go to site of mine for as long as I can remember. From buying clays for facials to buying herbs. Now they even have Good Trade Spices!

All of their bulk dried herbs, botanicals and seasonings are strictly selected from the finest harvests and they have meticulously reviewed and analyzed all our materials to promise you an herbal product that is so fresh, colorful, and fragrant you can’t help but to smile.
Mountain Rose Herbs line of organics are the first choice for respected authors, herbalists, stores, scientists, manufacturers, students and schools. Since 1987 they have continually come to Mountain Rose Herbs to satisfy their botanical requirements, and in this time we have repeatedly delivered the quality they expect. They attribute this astounding quality to the fact that Mountain Rose Herbs has over 11 farm operations, 6 wild harvesting operators, and acts as a direct liaison and processor with farmers and growers all across the globe.

They are confident not only in the quality of materials they supply, but the ethics involved with their preparation and handling. If you feel beguiled and often frustrated with the inferior quality of “Mass Market” herbs and spices that have been on market shelves and within stores inventories for months and sometimes years, then you can count on Mountain Rose Herbs to deliver a product that is unsurpassed in quality and freshness.

Mountain Rose Herbs has always taken a formidable and uncompromising stand when it comes to the protection and sustainability of our natural world and the delicate systems which balance all life as we know it. This complex and venerable planet produces all of the products we share with you, and it is simply a matter of appreciation and respect that must be given. Not only do we lead the industry in environmental stewardship, we also adhere to strict principles and protocols that ensure fair treatment and compensation for the people involved with the production of our products; both domestically and overseas. These are the very same people that produce much of what we offer you and our wish is to further guarantee that they are compensated well for their services and treated with respect. Through common consensus we hope to encourage an ecological practice within businesses and our communities, where more is given than is taken. This follows the simple, yet powerful dictum…

Craig and I have been put to the task of trying out a few of their new Good Trade Spices. I have to admit, we aren’t complaining one little bit! So far my favorite is the Grilling Spice, all organic ingredients include: Garlic, Rosemary, Thyme, Black Pepper and other spices. This was so outstanding on my corn on the cob, I didn’t even use butter. We also tried in on pork chops, and some roasted eggplant. It is really outstanding.

One that I have been using a lot indoors is their Smoked Sea Salt. This Pacific Sea Salt is slow smoked over real Pacific Alder wood, giving it an authentic and full bodied smoke flavor. What I really love is that it doesn’t leave a lingering charcoal flavor, and can be used so easily inside to pair with anything that has been grilled outdoors. I added a little to my last batch of Mac-n-Cheese. and wow, did it really make all the different cheese flavors pop.

I also love Lemon Pepper, and my contact at Mountain Rose Herbs, said that I just had to try this. I have only used it in my salad dressings so far, (olive oil, lemon juice and this herb) and I am and I wonder how I lived with the grocery store variety!

I have all of these, Smoked Sea Salt, Lemon Pepper, Grilling Herbs, West Indies Rub, Mexican Seasoning and lastly Thai Curry for one Prissy Green Reader! The Mexican Seasonings have been a new staple for our tacos.

To enter, head over to Mountain Rose Herbs and choose another Spice from their HUGE selection and come tell me what it is and what you would use it in. Choose one that isn’t mentioned here please.
