Mountain Rose Herbs Offers Cash Incentives for Carpooling & Biking to Work

Mountain Rose Herbs, the premier provider of competitively priced, sustainably-harvested organic herbal products, is taking their eco-efforts to new heights by introducing the nation’s most progressive carpooling and bicycling to work program that features cash incentives.Carpool

“We pay our employees in cash for carpooling and bicycling to work. To our knowledge, no other company is offering a cash incentive that reaches the same caliber as ours in the United States,” says Shawn Donnille, Mountain Rose Herbs’ Operations Manager & Director of Quality Control.

A huge concern to environmentalists, excess automobile usage is a primary contributor to global warming. In fact, according to the Environmental Defense Fund, U.S. autos emit more than 333 million tons of carbon dioxide each year, more than one-fifth of the nation’s total carbon dioxide emissions. Carpooling and bicycling programs–like the one introduced by Mountain Rose Herbs–can make a big difference in lessening our environmental footprint.

The program pays staff members who carpool to work 12-cents per mile for each passenger, and for those who bicycle to work, 20-cents per mile. In addition to the cash reward for each mile, Mountain Rose Herbs also offers a yearly $500 cash bonus to the staff member who has logged the most miles.

The carpool and bicycling to work incentive is just one program in a long line of forward-thinking sustainability programs from Mountain Rose Herbs. As a “Zero Waste” company, Mountain Rose Herbs goes to great lengths to ensure that materials which might be regarded as waste are recycled, re-used, composted, reclaimed, or brought back into the production cycle. When Mountain Rose Herbs adopted a “Zero Waste” policy, they went from producing about 3,300 gallons of waste per month (a normal amount for a processor) to producing between 80 to 100 gallons per month–the same as a typical four-person household. All invoices, flyers, brochures, and other paper materials are printed on 100-percent post consumer materials and all facilities are powered by renewable energy.

Because of Mountain Rose Herb’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, they have received numerous awards, including Co-op America’s People’s Choice Award for Green Business of the Year, Provender Alliance’s “The Evolution in Motion Award” and the “Bold Steps Towards Sustainability Award.”
Since 1987, Mountain Rose Herbs, based in Eugene, Oregon, has been known for its uncompromising commitment to organic agriculture, sustainable business practices, and steadfast focus on the pure aesthetics and freshness of botanical products. Their wide range of product offerings includes bulk herbs and spices, aromatherapy and essential oils, tea and tea supplies, and natural health and body care. Every aspect of product creation is carried out in accordance to strict quality control and organic handling procedures by employees who care. From their fragrant and beyond-fresh organic herbs and spices, to soothing essential oils and delicious herbal teas, the quality and integrity of Mountain Rose Herbs is unparalleled–with smiles guaranteed.

Mountain Rose Herbs has been my go to shop for clays for making masks since 1992. No internet at the time, so placed my orders via telephone. Times have certainly changed!
Great spot to order teas and tea supplies for the hard to buy for tea drinking this holiday season!

The Tote Buddy Review and 48 Hr Giveaway (Closed)

December 1, 2009 by Karissa

When I got grocery shopping, I buy a cart full.  I rarely bother to go if I am not needing multiple items.  Craig sometimes goes to the store more then once a day.  So when I go, I need all of my reusable bags with me.  The problem is, they are all scattered about.  My car, my trunk, my office, the garage.  They are never all together and I am not sure why!

So when I received an email introducing me to The Tote Buddy, I laughed at how simple and yet how smart of a solution it is!

Watch this really quick video.

See what I mean about simple and yet sooo smart!?

And they come in a man’s inconspicuous black and a pretty flowery print too.

What I received was The Tote Buddy In floral, and with 3 heavy duty, jumbo sized reusable totes.  It is so practical and helps me stay organized.  AND instead of being a bag that become separated from the pack, all three are always with The Tote Buddy. What I have been doing is either leaving it in the laundry room on the doorway to the garage) or simply taking it back out to my car.

Each Solution contains 3 jumbo/heavy duty bags, and you can fit up to 10!  And the Solution is only $7.99. Or you can buy the original Tote Buddy and it comes in Black and contains 1 black bag and it is priced at $5.99.

The Tote Buddy is The World’s First Reusable Bag Organizer!

It is made of 100% recyclable materials.

The Tote Buddy is the perfect shopping companion!

The Tote Buddy is passionately dedicated to ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’.

The Tote Buddy neatly organizes reusable grocery bags, so that they can be kept nearby and used for every shopping trip.

I have TWO Solution Tote Buddies to giveaway! Your choice of Black or Floral.  Contest ends on 12/2!

Last second shopping?  Try your grocery store!  images

Yep!  Shop Whole Foods this holidays for green gifts!  It might just be easier to park, easier to check out PLUS you will find the best eco-friendly finds!

Just one of the many eco-friendly & natural lines that Whole Foods carries is Maggie’s Organics. They specialize in organic cotton clothing and fair trade clothing.

Wholefoods and Maggie’s Organics sent me this gorgeous scarf to review.  It is a little lighter in weight, which makes it a great accessory piece. It does perform at keeping me warm, but probably won’t be my go to when fridgid January weather comes around and leaves me with 13 degree highs!  But for 30 degrees and up it is great!

Organic Cotton Scarf

Organic Cotton Scarf

I have the Plum colored Organic Cotton Scarf, on the far right.  It really is gorgeous.  The design is very subtle and adds fun flair with out being gaudy.  Maggie’s extra long scarf is a soft, light weight ,100% Certified Organic Cotton Jersey and the print is made with water-based printing.  ($13)

I also received these fun, colorful, Organic Cotton Socks from Maggie’s.  I love color.  I can’t deny that, and sometimes in the winter I have to get it color where wear I can!  I look to my socks for color.

Organic Cotton Socks Crew Tri-pack

Organic Cotton Socks Crew Tri-pack

I have the Eggplant, Goldenrod and Teal, which is the very top left.

This socks are nice and thick, but not so thick my shoes don’t fit!  Really cushioned and the top actually stays put, without cutting off my circulation! I realized a few years ago, that a sock is not a sock.  I was dating a guy that only wore SmartWool and after wearing his socks one time, I now search out GOOD socks!   89% Certified Organic Cotton, 10% Nylon, 1% Spandex  ($19)

Zum soap Mint_PeppermintZum soap Mint_Spearmint

Whole Foods also sent me a couple bars of ZUM! Soap to try out.  Zum Soaps puts out special Holiday Flavors and the two I received are: Mint Peppermint and Mint Spearmint.  These are Goat’s Milk Soap, which happens to be my very favorite!  They are bursting with the minty scents and leave me nice and cool and completely refreshed.  A really nice pick me up on sluggish days.  And trust me, I have had a few of those lately!  Only $6!  And sold at Whole Foods and Online at Zum Soaps only!

Today I have a giveaway brought to us by Maggie’s Organics!  Maggie’s would like to treat one Prissy Green reader to the set i received!  The Organic Cotton Plum Scarf and the Organic Cotton Tri-pack of Crew Socks!  I also happen to have an extra soap so the winner will also receive a Mint Peppermint Zum Soap from yours truly!  This package is worth almost $40!  If you win you can keep it or give it as a gift!

To enter, please visit Maggie’s Organics and tell me something besides the scarves and socks that you would like to find in your holiday gift goodies!
