Vaska Moving on Up!

VASKA, a Berkeley based producer of green, botanically based laundry care products for the commercial, institutional and consumer markets, is pleased to announce that it has introduced its green laundry chemical system to Winter Park Resort in Winter Park, Colorado (www.winterparkresort.com), an Intrawest property (www.intrawest.com), making it the first resort to wash with green chemicals.
VASKA has changed the rules of commercial laundry by introducing a plant-based ‘herbatergent’ that was honored with the EPA’s SDSI (Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative) designation and other environmentally responsible biodegradable products that clean as effectively as traditional chemicals without damaging linens in the process. Vaska competes load for load on price and quality with traditional chemical approaches. The health of laundry workers and the local environment is a top priority, avoiding exposure to petroleum based detergents and solvents.
Michelle Petersen, Uniform Services Foreman, introduced Vaska products in the laundry facility that washes uniforms for the resort’s 2000 workers as well as the food and beverage linens for Winter Park’s four company owned restaurants. Petersen brought in Vaska to replace the previous chemical provider whose products were not cost efficient, not effective and not green.
According to Petersen, “The harsh chemicals we were using in our machines were ruining the waterproofing in the outdoor garments worn by the mountain staff. We have more than half a million dollars in high tech gear, and Vaska allows us to get these garments clean and protect our investment.”
Julia Fry, VASKA’s CEO, learned to ski at Winter Park with her family. She has wonderful memories of racing down the mountain with her siblings and cousins, and she is excited to be able to make a contribution to a resort that is a refuge for so many local outdoor enthusiasts.
“VASKA is passionate about cleaning without poisoning the planet. We need to do everything we can to preserve the environmental quality of national treasures like the Rocky Mountains.”
Vaska is also the cleaning agent for the uniforms for the San Francisco Giants.

New Terra Living Review
New Terra Living is a site that you will find gifts, baby items, no tool composite furniture, cleaning supplies and many more things that fall under the eco-friendly and natural category.
Eco-Friendly Office Furniture
Composite furniture is lightweight, strong, flexible and environmentally friendly. Strong, sturdy, easy and environmentally sound.
And unlike most easily assembled furniture, you can take this apart and put it back together as many times as you wish, with out reducing the quality. Plus it is sturdy! Legare did a test on one of their desks with weights and it held at 2,000 pounds, never giving a bit.
Sweet Organic Baby Clothes, organic baby and toddler bedding, swaddling blankets even pillows!
I tried out the Beckon’s Organics Strength Yoga Pants. Most of my yoga attire pants are capri’s. Now that it is fall, our house can get drafty on overcast days. So I was thrilled when I put these on, they were long enough. The quickly became my new very best friend. Perfect fit. I do have hips and a butt, some yoga wares don’t account for this. Beckon’s does. I can talk about exercising longer then actually doing it, but these make me look as fit as a yogi. I just love that about Yoga gear, these seem to have it a little more. They aren’t tight, just hug the right curves and ignore the curves you don’t want hugged.
I can see why this is the Yoga Line that New Terra Living decided to carry.
And talk about comfort. The organic cotton breaths, and the spandex gives me flexibility. I actually did the Yoga Pulse Express DVD as well as a Tai Chi DVD this weekend, and they worked perfectly. Gave me movement, and coverage. Definitely a pant I need in all colors! Well minus black. All black pants just end up covered in dog hair. =)
Tea Accessories, solar powered address lights and mailboxes, Dr. Bronners, Ecover are just a few more details about New Terra Living. And competitively prices. Where else can you get organic bed linens for a baby shower, grab some yoga pants for your work out, buy your cleaning supplies and a desk?
Secure checkout that is hosted by Amazon.

Seventh Generation and Safer Chemicals Million Baby Crawl! Giveaway

Seventh Generation needs your help making our nation’s outdated chemical law tougher, in order to make the world safer for our children. Join us in spreading the word about the Million Baby Crawl to help educate and empower parents to raise their voices for stronger standards on toxic chemicals.
Jeffrey Hollender co-founder of Seventh Generation had this to say,
“We assume our homes are safe havens, but the fact is that the vast majority of the chemical compounds found in the products we use there have never been tested. And in most cases manufacturers don’t even have to tell us on product labels what those toxins are.
This is a dangerous recipe for harm that virtually every family is exposed to every day,” said Seventh Generation co-founder and Chief Inspired Protagonist, Jeffrey Hollender. “We’re on a mission to come together and change that once and for all.”
Did you know that…
- In the 33 years since Congress passed that nation’s chemical regulatory law, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TCSA), the Environmental Protection Agency has required testing on just 200 of the more than 80,000 chemical compounds developed for products used in the home.
- Under the current law, the EPA does not have the authority to demand the information it needs to evaluate a chemical’s risk, and neither manufacturers nor the EPA are required to prove a chemical’s safety as a condition of use.
- 1.25 million kids younger than six are unintentionally poisoned in the home each year by things like cosmetics and personal care products, cleaning substances, pain relievers and cough and cold medicines (American Association of Poison Control Centers)
- Studies show that nearly 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants have been found in the umbilical cord blood of newborns (EWG).
So what can you do? I ask the same thing.
To help turn this new bill into law, Seventh Generation has partnered with Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families, a diverse nationwide coalition comprised of environmental groups, health professionals and others working to pass smart federal policies that protect us from toxic chemicals.
- Join the Million Baby Crawl and email a friend!
- Learn more about Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families and email Congress to let them know you think it’s time to update the law governing toxic chemicals. www.saferchemicals.org
- Learn more about safe products with Seventh Generation’s Label Reading Guide.
- Join the Twitter Party for Million Baby Crawl. Hashtag #MBCrawl. Date TBD, but I promise you will know one panelist! **me!** And as soon as I know the date, I will let you all know.
Andy Igrejas of the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition had this to say:
“It’s time for commonsense limits on toxic chemicals in our homes, workplaces, and in the products we use.” “We must act together to see that the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act is passed and families are protected from unsafe products. The Million Baby Crawl will take much more than baby steps toward making these things happen.”
In order to spread the word about this new campaign, Seventh Generation is providing one winner with a Seventh Generation starter kit. To enter to win, please visit the Million Baby Crawl and tell me something unique you learned there.
Seventh Generation Living Home Starter Kit includes: Glass Cleaner, All-Purpose Cleaner, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Shower Cleaner, Tub and Tile Cleaner, Kitchen Cleaner, 2 Natural Paper Towels (120 count) and a Reusable Tote!

Picnic Basket Crafts On Etsy! Review and Giveaway
I was poking around on Etsy one day (come on who doesn’t?) and found this great store there, Picnic Basket Crafts. She has a little bit of everything in her store. From cleaning products to reusable napkins, products for your face and for your toes! Plus when she sends them, she is using reclaimed boxes, like cereal, granola bars etc. All turned inside out, to make one less piece of trash in the land fills.

What actually brought me to her site was me looking for reusable cloths for the kitchen and to use as napkins. We tend to go through a lot of paper towels, even with being conscious of using them. I really don’t want to see what the average household uses.
She sent me several sample sized products to test out and review for your here.
Ecofriendly Unbleached Cotton Alternative to Paper Towels-Loving this item. and I definitely plan to order more. They are thick, perfectly sized at 10×8, and you can reuse over and over again. Use for quick clean ups, napkins, anything you would typically use a paper towel for! and then some. They pick up more wet messes then a paper towel. and I know Craig has been impressed.
Wood Furniture polishing Creme. I adore this! We actually don’t as much wood in our house as what I used to have before we moved in together, Craig brought some nice metal furniture, but we do have a huge Armore, that needs polished up every so often. I tested this out on the inside, that rarely gets seen just to be safe, then realized, I was infatuated with the new glossy sheen and moved to the outside! It is really easy to spread and sinks in nicely.
I also tried out her Eco-Friendly Glass Cleaner. Now normally I just clean with vinegar and water, but this has a nice scent and leaves no streaks behind. Definitely a nice alternative!
So after you have spent some or even most of your day cleaning, you might want a good ol soak yourself! Try this on for size! A Spa-at-Home-Getaway, with 8 Products! All for only $12! I have tried most of these and I I can tell you, that just the Tub Truffles and the Peppermint Foot Bath Truffles. I wasn’t actually expecting as much as I got out of either of these but I am LOVING the Foot Bath Truffles. I have used things on my feet to soak before and never felt like they did much good. This is like giving your feet a shot of the Energizer Bunny!
She has a Kaolin Scrub for your feet, a Peppermint Patty Lotion Solid, Calendula and Herb Facial Mask, Spot and Blemish Treatment, Nightime Eye Serum, Face Cream and a Massage Oil all included as well! Yes, I told you $12 is a DEAL! and a great way to try what you might want to buy in ful sized product too!
Picnic Basket Crafts wants to offer one Prissy Green reader the chance to try all of these fantastic items out too! You will receive the Spa-At-Home-Getaway pack, samples of the Reusable towel, Wood and Floor Cleaner, Wood Polishing Creme, and the Glass Cleaner.
To enter, simply visit Picnic Basket Crafts, and tell me oe other item besides those listed here, you would like to try. Trust me, you can find another, she has LOADS of items for sale.
