Have an Eco-Friendly Christmas!

Christmas is a ’spendy”, no holds barred, extravagant time of year. I can’t speak for Kwanzaa or Hanukkah as I have never been christmas-tree-with-presentsaround a family celebrating those, but I am sure they are too!

So here are a few ideas to help you keep your year long green missions in check, and not ruin all of the eco-friendly efforts we all do.

  • Use LED lights. find these at any home shopping store. HomeDepot, Lowes etc.  You will not only save eco-face but save money on your energy bill too!  Send old strands of  old school incandescent lights to HolidayLeds.com they will take care of recycling!
  • Make your own decor.  Use pinecones, acorns, sprigs from trees, holly.  Anything that is pretty, festive and not destined to be around for the next thousands of years (plastic).  String Popcorn and Berries for your tree.  It is a great family project.  My mom and I always did this while my dad and brother went out for the tree.  (my favorite memories)
  • Reusable Bags for gifting and shopping. Make your gift a two-fer! Give them a reusable Christmas bag. I got 3 nice, Christmas ones at TJ Maxx yesterday for only $2.99. And make sure you take your own to the stores too.  or use Ecoration bags!
  • Buy and use a real tree! Fake trees are no good.  not at all.  Petroleum based and in no way recyclable or compostable.  Either get a tree with roots and plant it (this is what we did growing  up) or take it to be made into wood chips and use those around the yard.
  • Buy Eco-friendly gifts.  Replace  your lotion and candle sets with some of the organic and/or natural ones you have read about on Prissy Green.  Buy Soy or Beeswax candles.  Find at Dancing Dingo and my store, Prissy Green!
  • Skip paper cards. Unless you use a family picture for your cards, consider a phone call or an E-card instead.  Try and keep the over 2 billion Christmas cards out of the trash and recycling bins!
  • Holiday Dinner?  Think of hitting up your local farmers market for a free range turkey.  Fresh vegetables and anything else they might have.  Cheese, milk etc.  Dinner will taste better, be better for you, and you will be doing your part so you will feel better!
  • Kill the  paper plates and plastic forks. If you just have to have some of those items, try shopping at LetsGoGreen.biz so you are getting the most eco-friendly and compostable varieties.  Use code KRG20 to save 20%.

Dancing Dingo Review and Giveaway

dancingdingotextcody2Sophistication Unleashed

Dancing Dingo Luxury Soap was created in Austin, Texas, by Kathy Cumberland Goodwin. Kathy had been in the engineering field for over 20 years, and one day began to notice that her life seemed to be passing by at a greater rate of speed than in previous days. Kathy was secretly burning to discover what in life would make her feel truly happy and fulfilled; what was her passion?

While searching for answers one beautifully starlit Texas night, Kathy was momentarily distracted by Margaret, the Dancing Dingo dog. Margaret happens to be a dog who would rather hop around on her hind legs checking out the world above the floor, than walking on all fours. Looking into Margaret’s happy and smiling eyes, Kathy realized her answer: happiness lies in doing what feeds your soul, like Margaret’s dog dancing. For Kathy, happiness would be found in having a company that encourages women to treat themselves well and have fun with products that are both natural and good for you!

Today that’s what Dancing Dingo Luxury Soap is all about: treating yourself well, both physically and mentally, with natural and good-for-you products. Whether it’s soaking in a soothing botanical Bath Tea, or stretching out for a cat nap in crisp cool linen sheets scented with French Lavender Linen Spray, Dancing Dingo is committed to creating scrumptious products that make you feel pampered and glad to be woman. Celebrating our ‘Sophistication Unleashed!’ motto, Dancing Dingo boasts of products that are good for you and lusciously scented.

Life is all about how you choose to live it! This is the true essence of Dancing Dingo.

The name of this company makes me want to write a jingle.  Isn’t it perfect for a silly T.V. Commercial?

Just take a look at their dancing Dingo,

Dingo5And now you try and tell me your kids wouldn’t want to get cleaned up by soap with a dancing dingo, with a pink tutu? Lucky for us adults, Dancing Dingo carries more then kids soaps, but every toiletry us ladies covet, stuff for men, pets, and even babies!

Most of their products are Vegan, but all of them are cruelty free. Plus they are all paraben and sulphate free!

Dancing Dingo believes that offering naturally-good-for-you body products makes naturally happy, healthy people! And at this stage of the game?  There really is no reason to settle for anything less!

They offer a wide range of natural and earth friendly products for every member of the family. For the natural baby Dancing Dingo offers their Dingo Baby line of gentle and skin-friendly essentials. They also offer a line of grooming products for your best friend called Dog De-funkifier. Plus they donate a portion all sales of their Dog De-Funkifier to the Animal Trustees of Austin.

Dancing Dingo is approved by Leaping Bunny and PETA. Plus they are eco-friendly, by recycling and using minimal and biodegradable materials (wherever possible) in all packaging. Dancing Dingo even won the, 2008 Green With ENVY Award as one of Texas Top 30 Eco-friendly companies.

Once I stumbled upon Dancing Dingo, I knew I had to write about them here.  I fell in love with comfy site, and all the products that you can see are made with love.  And frankly, anyone with dogs as mascots and spokespeople dogs, are always at the head of my list!

Coconut Kukui

Dancing Dingo sent me a few items to sample and review for you here on Prissy Green.  I have always been a huge Sandalwood fan, but it can be pretty pricey to purchase and bottle for home use, so I always rely on a “master” to do the mixing for me.  I didn’t go wrong with choosing the Sandalwood Vanilla Coconut Kukui Skin Conditioning Spray.  The scent is simply stunning. I promise it will stop any man in their tracks.  And the oil itself is so moisturizing but because they use fractionated coconut oil, it is light, and almost a dry oil.  Not greasy.  I pair this with my Cocoa and Shea Hand and Body Lotion, in Sandalwood Lavender, and smell fresh all day!

I only use the Coconut & Kukui oil in my driest spots, elbows, ankles, feet and back, so it promises to last me a long time!  The ingredients?  Fractionated Coconut oil and Kukui oil.  that is it!  Plus the essential oils to make the scent of your choice!

Lotion

I am so glad I have two products that have the gorgeous Sandalwood Lavender Scent, because there are times with an oil spray doesn’t work.  And that is when their Cocoa & Shea Hand and Body Lotion cames in “handy.”  I love to keep this by the bed, so I can rub it into my hands and feet before bed.  Although the lotion can take dry skin out, it isn’t greasy, and tends to sink it rather quickly, so it would be great for those of us that type all day!

My new go to lip care of late is Dancing Dingo’s Botanical Lip Treatment in Lavender Ylang Ylang. One touch of this, and your dry lips are history!  Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, jojoba oil, Rosehip oil and bees wax this is certainly a luxury item with out the price tag for your lips.  I have even been putting it around my cuticles when they seem to get dry.  The texture is smooth and silky.

chamomile hydrosol

Lastly, I was also sent their moisturizing Neroli Hydrosol.  Neroli, also known as Orange Blossom, is one of the most versatile hydrosols available. Neroli is astringent making it useful for oily and acne prone skin types. Neroli Hydrosol is wonderful as a facial toner, fragrant body splash, and facial moisturizer to spritz on throughout the day. I enjoy this just after I finish my makeup, seems to set it, and yet also keep my mineral makeup from getting to dry.  I am also guilty of using it after I shower, and before I have applied anythng else!

Dancing Dingo also carries perfume misters, shampoo & conditioner, all your facial care needs and even men’s shaving needs!  Plus an endless supply of hand crafted soaps, and I promise, there is a scent to please any nose!

Dancing Dingo has been kind enough to offer a $35 Gift Certificare to one Prissy Green Winner, and also to offer a Soap and 4oz. Lotion to two runner up winners!  Winner chooses scents of course!
