It’s National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week!
November 1-7. (First full week of November every year. Sorry I am not informing you of it until the last day!)
Begun in 1996 by the Humane Society of America, National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week encourages everyone who loves animals to bring public awareness to all the important work shelters do throughout the year.
Visit www.BringPetsHome.org to learn more about National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week and ways you can help support the work of shelters, from utilizing the “Shop to Help” page to downloading a “twibbon” to your BringPetsHome profile. Throughout the year, BringPetsHome’s “Shop to Help” page raises money to help shelters care for homeless pets. It serves as an online portal where visitors can access more than 150 major online retailers, like Amazon, Sephora, Wal-Mart, iTunes, and many more.
To raise money, online shoppers register at www.bringpetshome.org to select a shelter to support, then click-through to the merchant of choice. Each retailer specifies a percent commission on the Web site and donates that percentage of the purchase to BringPetsHome. There is no additional cost to the consumer.
Basically this works the same way as affiliates. I provide affiliate links in posts from time to time, to try and supplement my postal fees and honestly to try and earn a little bit of money. I think this program is a great way to give, with out digging into your pockets. Because, we all know Sephora and Amazon can give up 5-7% of a sale, and give back to the little man. (Pets or me right?)
I would love it if you would share this post! Use the feature below to stumble, digg, mixx, reddix etc! I am not making money from anything in this post, or links, I just want to be a friend to the little furbabies that need homes!

LandsEnd FeelGood Sweater Donations to the Homeless

Back in high school we had to complete so many hours of community service to graduate. (yea really) at first it seemed so dreadful, but once I had my first project, I wanted to do it all the time. We went and handed out sandwiches, and hot coffee and hot chocolate to the homeless downtown. The were so nice, and joked and poked fun at my “fancy new boots” that frigid morning. It melted my heart for them.
Well LandsEnd has a special project going on for the homeless. It is called The Feel Good Story.
What it is, and How YOU can help.
- Help us spread the word about the campaign and the Feel Good Sweater collection through every resource: email, twitter, facebook, face to face, blogging, etc.
- Purchase a FeelGood Sweater and a cone of yard will be donated to One Heart Foundations Warming Families, a nationwide charity that knits clothing for the homeless.
- For every blog post about the campaign from now until September 16th, a cone of FeelGood yarn to volunteer knitters at Warming Families will be donated. One cone of FeelGood yarn is enough to make 28 hats to be donated to homeless individuals in communities across the country.
Join Lands’ End and Vickie Howell, host of TV’s Knitty Gritty, for a Twitter Party to celebrate the kick-off the FeelGood Campaign! The party will feature more than 20 fun giveaways ranging from the FeelGood sweater and Vickie Howell’s books to Lands’ End gift cards and FeelGood yarn.
Lands’ End FeelGood Twitter Party
Date: Wednesday, September 16th
Time: 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. CST
Location: Twitter using hashtag #landsend
Want to Do More?
Vickie Howell, best-selling craft author, has designed two hat patterns exclusively for Land’s End. You can download a pattern and knit away! Once they are finished all you have to do is send them to a participating volunteer group in your area. Download the Patterns, Hat Tag
Learn More about the FeelGood campaign and watch this demonstration with step by step instructions to create your own hats.
I have always wanted to learn how to knit. Always! I am saving this video, and keeping it in mind. And you too can learn how!
