Amber Jewelry (.com) Review and Giveaway
I know one thing about Amber Jewelry, it was my first true love. Forget those boys of high school. There was a shop near my house, that I started buying REAL jewelry at, when I was about 16, and he handmade gorgeous rings, and my eyes always fell back to each and every Amber one he created. Then I started driving to the “artsy” section of town, and realized I could buy earrings, and necklaces, and pendants! My love was officially signed, sealed and delivered from that moment on!
I am not sure if it is the color or the magic of the fossilized resin, but it draws me. Take me to a shop with Amber anywhere, and that is where my feet take me. Amber can come in a variety of colors, from pale yellow, the burnt orange typically seen, to cherry red, green and even blue!
Isn’t that fascinating?
Amber, an organic plastic, has the unique & singular ability to encompass and preserve the organic materials it encounters, like the the proverbial fly trapped in honey. Baltic amber is approximately 40-60 million years old and was held dear by many ancient cultures, treasured both for protective & decorative qualities. In modern western times, the movie Jurassic Park caused a surge of popular interest in this gemstone. However, amber has long commanded the hearts and minds of humans–in fact, it has commanded whole economies.
Inside the plant material and insects it has encapsulated, strands of DNA–life’s basic code–are also captured. This is why amber is often referred to as a, “Window to the Past.”
Common inclusions are plant materials such as oak leaf remnants or tiny hairs from oak buds, pollens, spores, leaves, twigs and most famously of all–insects. At least 214 plant species have been identified through morphological analysis of amber. The scientific study of amber has yielded a bounty of priceless data about the ancient world which but for the golden fist of amber’s preservation would have been lost to the ages.
Amber is not, as is commonly thought, pine sap, but rather amber is the vascular
tissue of the trees, exuded either during either injury or radical climate change.
Amber is to Europe what the Silk Road was to China- it was one of the reasons Emperor Nero opened up the trade & communication hubs along The Amber Way. Amber is a deeply storied substance that has touched many lives & many cultures. It is a very human history, a beloved adornment, a geologic wonder, a scientific odyssey, a cultural expedition & even at times, a mystical pursuit.

AmberJewelry.com was so very generous is letting me select a piece of jewelry to review here on Prissy Green. I selected the Rainbow Dangle Earrings, the first picture on top of this posting. These earring not only match anything and everything I wear, but are such a conversation piece. One of my friends tried to buy them from me! ” told her hell no! Go visit AmberJewelry.com!“ Until I got these, I had been pretty good about changing my earrings out for different outfits, but since I got these beautiful dangles, they might as well be only pair of earrings! The capture light, and the gradation of the colors of each gem, is perfection!
The silver that binds them, moves freely, so that they bend and move, but so that the amber is always together. Something truly unique! Each earring has 14 individual pieces of Amber!
One extremely lucky reader is going to have their choice between the three items above! Brigid’s Fire Celtic Amber Set (normally $93.50, on sale for $63.50), Brilliance Cognac & Crystal Pendant ($89) and the item I reviewed, the Amber Rainbow Dangles ($77.50).
