What I Learned from the Dog, Review and Giveaway
I just can’t get enough of short stories when I need to relax, but can’t seem to sit still longer then a few minutes. My first love affair with short stories was Alfred Hitchcock. I am sure I still have the book somewhere, but I was only 8-9 and I think the book weighed more then me! It was incredibly thick, and full of amazing Hitchcock stories.
Over the last few days I have been reading short stories from pet owners from the new book in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, titled: Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog: 101 Stories about Life, Love and Lessons.
The stories are short, sweet, concise and have a true point. Usually a moral lesson. Just like Hitchcock’s The Twilight Zone.
I know just how boring my life would be with out Bayles and Bleu, and growing up, I would have went crazy had I not always had Mary and Chiquita around. (my two cats)
I have FIVE copies of this heart warming book to giveaway to 5 of you!
To enter, tell me something about your pet, or something an animal has taught you.

I have a new kitten and she has taught me how to enjoy the little things. She is so content sitting on my lap and I feel that way too.
I have learned many lessons from pets. I’ve had lots of cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and other pets. I guess the biggest thing I have learned is patience.

my dog is a member of the family, she is our baby girl
When I was little I had 2 dogs. They ran away one day and I was crushed! Well the following week, I had heard that the janitor at school had found 2 dogs. Turns out that my dogs had followed me to school.
My cat has taught me that persistence pays off. If he wants something he’ll keep at it and eventually he gets what he wants of course.
My pom Bengee was given to me after I retired and I had never had an animal inside my house before. I could never had imagined the companionship he gives me. Some times I think he uses sign language to talk to me. He is so smart, I would be lost without him since there is just me and him. He looks like a little white lion. Thanks for the chance to win the book.
Having pets have taught be how to be responsible from an early age.
We got a new puppy in April after much thought. It was the best thing that ever happened to us. Our little Shit-zu has so much personality and is so friendly that we have made friends with our neighbors. They greet him when they see him and he’s even gotten gifts from several neighbors. So he is bringing joy to more than just our lives, but the whole neighborhood.
I have 4 dogs who love to sleep with me. It get a bit crowded but they keep me warm on those cold nights.
I have two dogs, a chihuahua and a rottweiler, and I love them dearly but either have yet to teach me anything. lol! Thank you for the giveaway, I would love to read it!

Working with dogs has taught me to just go with the flow. You can’t always be in total control of every situation.

I have 2 dogs, which I already had when I met my boyfriend. He was not keen on the idea of the 4 of us living together. It took him less than a month to be totally in love and wanting a 3rd dog. They are amazing stress relievers.

I grew up never having cats. I now have nine of them and had 13 at one point. I love them. My cats have taught me that there is such a thing as unconditional love. My wife and my one grandmother are the only humans who have ever shown this to me, but its different with a cat. You look into their eyes and its 100% trust and love, nothing else. Sure they get cranky and have their bad days just like anyone, but overall they are there for you no matter what you are going thru and will let you cry on them and hold them and cuddle them asking no questions.

The best story I have is how my fur baby Kismet got her name. When I was in college, I was over at a friends apartment one evening with my hubby when this girl we had never met came downstairs to ask our friend for some help. She was in the process of moving out of the upstairs apartment and started talking about her cat that was pregnant and that she could not keep. She told us that she was taking the pregnant kitty to the shelter. I knew that in WV pregnant animals were euthanized to prevent further homeless pets from being brought into the world. I looked at my hubby and he knew and nodded. I stood up and said “we will take her.” We named her Kismet because it could not have been an accident that we were there for that conversation. She had four babies, one of which we still have and one of which our friends still have. Two of the babies have passed away and, unfortunately, this past February, Kismet passed away at the ripe old age of 18.

This will be for my sis in law and brother. They have a pomeranian and LOVE that dog. She is their baby!!! She teaches them patience I think. And Love. She is sweet and prissy.
Yesterday I had to take my all white cat, Alice to the Vet. Her kidneys are starting to fail. The Vet gave me 3 courses of action. Have her put to sleep, take her home and she my live a couple of months, or put her on IV fluids, and special food & she may live for several months. I took the 3rd option. I love with all my heart. Cats have made me a better person.
I rescued a cat that I named Kismet. I snatched her up from in front of a car that was about to run her over, and later that same night saved her from a dog that was trying to attack her as she hid under a car. I had many adventures trying to find her home (which I didn’t), but since this is supposed to be about her I’ll say this now: I’m allergic to cats but felt so much for her that I took her home and WASN’T allergic! I thought it was a miracle but it turned out that she was a Russian Blue, who are better for people with allergies, and who are extremely loyal. I think she must have been a house cat who was abandoned or lost, and I never found out her age when I rescued her (some people said 2, some said 5, according to her teeth, but who knows?). However she was the most wonderful cat and once when I was lying on the bed crying she jumped up on my chest and made a ring of kisses around my mouth because she felt so much for me. She was an excellent companion! She died this past year on Valentine’s Day (I’d had her for ten years) and I truly miss her. We have them for such a small amount of time, our great pals!

Our 6 year old cocker spaniel we adopted a 1 1/2 years ago..His name is Ringo. We found out he likes to howl and talk a lot after one day in the car I was singing and he started howling. *embrassed at my horrid singing* However now when you say I love you to him he makes lil grunts back at you and now our other dog who was very shy and timid will have a howl party together at times. It’s the cutest thing.

I have 3 dogs now and one cat that only has 3 paws…all of them we either found abandoned or rescued from the Animal Protective League. The newest addition is Bailey-Bear, a boxer mix. She loves stuffed animals and is always stealing them from my daughter’s bedroom and she hides them under the dining room table. We call them her “babies”.

My dog is mixed breed rescue from Puerto Rico. It was love at first sight for both of us. I met her at an adoption open house and she came right up to me and starting licking my face, even though she’d had a long day and just wanted to lay down. She’s been with us ever since, going on 7 years now. She’s the best!
My Boxer, Mr. Manny, has taught me patience and unconditional love.
I have had cats all of my life. Currently, I have two gigantic Maine Coons (one is 21 pounds, the other is 30 pounds). Cats have taught me to calm down, care for someone besides myself, and learn to love animals of all kinds. My cats are there for me when I need them — when I am sick or upset. And in turn, I am there for them. Like a good marriage, we give to each other, we compromise, and we are rewarded with a synergistic relationship that adds meaning to our lives.

I learned the lesson “Don’t judge a book by its cover” again… our doberman allowed kids to ride her!
I was just someone yesterday about my sister’s dog, Dixie. If she would lose one of her toys under the hutch in my parents kitchen, she’d be flat on her belly with her nose underneath the hutch. She used to wait there like that until someone came and fetched it out for her and on several occasions she would fall asleep waiting. It always surprise me how patient she was

When I was about 10 my cousin brought us a puppy which we called Rocky. Over the years he became known all over town and was loved by the whole neighborhood. Sometimes he would stay gone for days at a time visiting with other doggie friends and people friends. Rocky was even hit by a van one time and walked away. My dad’s friend became very attached to Rocky and Rocky would visit his garage everyday and hang out with all his buddies who fed him quite well. Rocky eventually got hit by another car and didn’t make it that time and we were all very sad, including my little boy but I’m just glad Rocky got to be his dog too.

My sister had a dog that I loved very much… she is no longer with us and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss her. She taught me about genuine happiness and friendship. She idolized my sister, never leaving her side. All she ever needed was found when my sister walked through the door. She wasn’t with us very long but she was absolutely an angel, a God send.

I had the best dog you could ask for this past year.. she was a gorgeous chihuahua and she was my right arm.. she passed away during surgery when i brought her to be fixed.. but she taught me alot in our short year together.. how to love without expectation of getting something in return… and to enjoy a beautiful day.. and how just sitting with someone when they’re upset can make such a huge difference… i miss her every day

I now have a Standard Poodle that is the love of my life. She is the perfect judge of people and although she is wonderful to everyone, when she does not like or trust them, she never leaves their side>> they think she is the best dog ever and I have no future association with them. It’s how I hire people, She’s always right!
I would love to read this book to her, we could learn so much in his humor…

I have an English Bulldog. He has helped me with patience. He is not your typical lazy bulldog. He loves to play and jump all over, etc. We picked a bulldog because they are lazy and we used to work long hours. You actually have to tell this dog to calm down because you can see him overheating! He has also taught me to love/enjoy what I have. All he needs is food, water, and some attention and he is happy. It is nice to be loved unconditionally.
This summer, a small kitten started hanging around our house. I kept joking that “Dewey” needed to come join Mr T (our cat). Hubby kept saying no way! One day at noon he called me. “I can’t believe you let that stupid cat in here.” I had NO IDEA what he was talking about. All of a sudden he said “Never mind”. Seems Dewey let himself in!!! He crawled up a screen on an open window, the screen tore, in he came. Hubby had tossed him outside just before calling me, and there he was, crawling up and in again! I pointed out that apparently he had adopted us, and he’s been with us ever since.
