Kahina Giving Beauty Giveaway
You may remember be touting the benefits of Argan Oil in a few postings here on Prissy Green. One of those posts was a review on Kahina-Giving Beauty. There are two things that separate Kahina’s Argan Oil products from others, Exceptional products and 25% of profits from the Kahina line go to educational and women’s rights programs for the women of the argan cooperatives.
The Berber Women
The argan oil is extracted through a very labor intensive process which is performed by the Berber woman. This is one of the only ways these women can earn money and have any sense of financial freedom. Kahina is actively involved and makes several trips a year to nurture relations with these women.
The Kahina company even taught the mostly illiterate women how to write their names! Their signatures are the designs of the bottles.

I learned that the Berber women (along with Berber men, naturally) are the indigenous people of North Africa, who reside among the argan forests. I also learned that the work of extracting the oil offers the women of the region their only means of financial and social independence, and many are learning to read and write for the first time as well as discovering valuable business skills.

The co-op provides a means of support and income for these women and their families. Especially single women, but also married whose husband’s are out of work.

Fact: In the very traditional society of the rural regions of Southwestern Morocco, women are rarely allowed to leave their homes.
I like the Kahina Travel Kit, so one can try a little of every product. I am also impressed with their concept of Women Helping Women. It is a philosophy I incorporated a long time ago and I hope other women will feel the same way.
I learned that Zahra Elkatim’s name means flower in Arabic and that she has 7 children. She supports herself and her children by working at the cooperative.

Oh, I’ve been staring at the Kahina site forever now. Although I have yet to have a chance to try these products, I so hope to. The products sound exquisite. And I love that a company can create beautiful products and make such an intimate impact on the lives in this case, of women, clear across the planet all at the same time. I have to spend wisely these days, and it has made me more cognizant of where I want my dollars to go. The Berber women are beautiful. I love the sense of pride that their work provides them. And the fact that the beautiful packaging bears the signatures of these lovely women is my favorite part.

Like the majority of the women in the argan cooperatives, the Berber women are illiterate and many have been learning to read and write for the first time through literacy programs provided by the cooperatives.
Facial lotion would be great to try.
