Prissy Green may not be your first stop on a eco-friendly home decor frenzy, but from now on ModernEcoHomes should be. After browsing around this site, I was able to formulate my Christmas list. ModernEcoHomes even has a whole category for reviews. Want to see how others felt about your future purchase? Find it in the ModernEcoHomes review section.
I had read about a Wine Barrel Lazy Susan some time ago and thought it would make a great present for a wedding. but now that it is close to the other present time of year, I am thinking what a great gift for anyone! Family can use it on their kitchen tables. It would also be great for a craft table!
It is so simple, yet so earthy, romantic and classy! A re-purposed wine barrel into a spinning tray! you can even have them stenciled! Read Kristen’s entire review on Viva Terra’s Wine Barrel Lazy Susan.
And not worry. If you are truly in the gift giving mode, they have an entire category for your green gift giving needs. Since most of the items I talk about here on Prissy Green would make great gifts for women, let’s dish on eco-gifts for men! I am all over these eco-slippers for my dad. And Craig would be proud to pull out his Recycled LP Coasters.
Enjoy your shopping trip! There really is something for everyone, and it all just happens to be green too!

Pregnant Women’s Bodies Polluted With Chemicals Found In Consumer Products

Pregnant Women’s Bodies Polluted With Chemicals Found In Consumer Products
The “Earliest Exposures” study, a research project conducted by Washington Toxics Coalition in collaboration with the Commonweal Biomonitoring Resource Center and the Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition found pregnant women’s bodies were polluted with chemicals found in consumer products.
This first-of-its kind study investigated the living environment of nine fetuses through testing the blood and urine of the nine mothers taking part in the biomonitoring study. Tests measured the levels of five chemical groups, including phthalates, mercury, perfluorinated compounds or “Teflon chemicals,” bisphenol A (BPA), and the flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A.
The women, all in their second trimester, were all found to have BPA, phthalates, mercury, and “Teflon chemicals” in their bodies. Cause for concern is that these toxic chemicals, known to disrupt development and hormonal systems cross the placenta and are absorbed by the fetus. They not only hinder fetal development, but the growing fetus has limited ability to detoxify these foreign substances.
Of the more than 80,000 chemicals found in consumer products today, only approximately 200 have been tested for safety since the inception of The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) of 1976. Until more strict regulations govern the use of ingredients in consumer products, consumers can take an active role in lowering their toxic exposure. Start by purchasing Phthalate and BPA free products, switching from flame retardant clothing and bedding to organic, and substituting conventional body care for third-party certified organic body care.
Karen Ciesar, Founder and Formulator of Trillium Organics states,
“I am sadly not surprised at these findings. The pervasiveness of petrochemicals in the modern world makes avoiding exposures a task which requires research and vigilance. Luckily, there are many non-profit organizations dedicated to informing consumers, some of my favorites are; SafeCosmetics.org (searchable database of cosmetic safety), Healthystuff.org (searchable database of family product safety), HealthychildHealthyworld.org, a comprehensive and informative site about environmental exposures, OrganicConsumers.org (an activist website about all issues surrounding Organic, food, personal care and fibers). It takes some time and effort to find safe products for your family, but every green purchasing choice you make increases your child’s chance at a healthy future in a greener world.”
Trillium Organics has recently been endorsed by the Organic Consumers’ Association as a “brand to trust” in their recent BUYcott campaign, Trillium Organics has been a leader in the movement for clean, safe personal care since 1994.
Look out for a review and giveaway from Trillium this week!
Olivia Gardens Healthy Hair P7 Review
This seasons hair trend seems to be Long & Luscious. So if you have that style or know someone who does, Olivia Gardens Healthy Hair P7 is the must have gift! I have been using mine for a couple weeks and I seem to be losing less hair. It also seems to smooth my hair much better then the cheapy brush I was using before. Well actually the fat comb I normally use on my hair.
I normally have to spray my hair down in the winter with a shine spray to keep it from getting static electricity. But I have a feeling with this P7, that might not need to happen this year. The way it is created will brush the natural oils of my hair evenly throughout, and hopefully prevent static!
A large paddle brush with ionic cushion and bristles, the Healthy Hair P7 helps to close off the hair cuticle, while creating a protective barrier that protects hair and adds shine. Perfect for smoothing and adding luster and body to your strands, it is gentle on your scalp and helps to restore moisture balance to even the dullest locks.
Made from 100% bamboo, the Eco-chic P7 is not only environmentally-friendly, it also works to stimulate blood circulation and leave you with scintillatingly sexy and ultra healthy hair. Natural bamboo hair brush wth Ionic cushion.
Scalp massage activates blood cell circulation
Helps stimulate hair growth & reduce hair loss
Promotes healthy hair cells & healthy scalp
Restores hair balance & Shine – Anti-static
The Healthy Hair Large Ionic Paddle Brush retails for only $12.50!
Purchase Olivia Garden products at Ulta, Trade Secrets, Sally’s and maybe even at your professional salon.

MyChelle Review and Giveaway (Closed)

Natural Skin Care That Is Truly Effective
ALWAYS FREE OF
phthalates, parabens, propylene glycol, ureas, EDTA, fragrances, encapsulated nano particles, and artificial colors
Every year when the summer ends and the cool weather starts I try and erase any bits of hyperpigmentation that I have created since the sun was heavy or any that is just a part of life. Especially this year. Now that my acne seems to be a thing of the past I know this is the time of year to work extra hard at erasing my acne spots.
This year I was prepared with MyChelle. I have been using their Apple Brightening Peel and Apple Brightening Serum.

The Apple Brightening Peel isn’t nearly as scary as some of you might initially think. It is a very mild acid peel that I have been trying to use 1-2’s a week. Full of healers and protectors such as green apple fruit, lemon bioflavonoids, gallic acid, and L-arbutin to effectively diminish hyperpigmentation due to excessive sun exposure and age. Exceptional antioxidants such as acai and green tea protect against free radical damage and strengthen skin against future damage.
My face becomes noticeably smoother and I think the combination of the peel and the Brightening Serum have been helping. I have one sunspot that most people probably don’t see, but I do and it seems to be getting a little lighter. I have been using that spot as my guide, to see whether the two are working.
The Apple Brightening Peel is simple to use, just apply a think layer to clean skin and let set for 5-15 minutes. Then wash on and continue your normal routine.
The Apple Brightening Serum has been a nice addition to my routine. Gentle, but so far seems to be pretty effective at diminishing my spots. I was extremely nervous to try it, so for 2 weeks I only applied to right side of my face, once I knew it wouldn’t break my sensitive, acne prone skin out I started using it all over. The serum is nice and light and again full of healing ingredients. it also smells sweet and tangy.
Apple Brightening Serum contains nature’s most effective skin brighteners such as Applephenon, azelaic acid, alpha-arbutin, and lemon bioflavonoids. Heal sun damaged skin as well as help to prevent further damage by making skin healthy!
I also have been testing out MyChelle’s Hand Cream and MyChelle’s Barefoot Treatment.
The Hand Cream is a great night hand cream. Leave next to your bed and wake up to nice smooth hands and cuticles. Hand Cream is a concentrated hand cream with Pumpkin tar and salicylic acid to soothe and heal dry, chapped hands. May be used on the nail bed to treat unsightly ragged cuticles; a real hands-on formula with antibacterial properties. Scented nicely with Clary Sage and Lavender. A little too thick for using and typing, but great under gloves and as your night cream. I have it now sitting in my “bedtime basket” which contains all my vitamins I take before bed.
The Bare Foot Treatment is fantastic. Smooths rough heels easily. Breaks through the barrier of rough dry skin to start healing. Bare foot Treatment is a refreshing foot cream with boswellic acid and ginger to sooth puffy exhausted feet. Peppermint, lavender, and organic grapefruit essential oils refresh and invigorate while salicylic acid softens rough, tough skin.
MyChelle has a great sale going on right now. I am not sure how long it will last but EVERYTHING is 25% off!
And I have a Bare Foot Treatment and a Hand Cream for one Prissy Green reader!

100% Pure! Exclusive for Cyber Monday

Sorry Cuisinart, but I Don’t Like It.
Ya’ll have to know by now that I don’t normally post bad reviews. Generally I don’t have very many bad product experiences because I only choose to review things that I am pretty confident I can use. Tote Buddy? Yes. Hoover Vacuum? yes. Organic Make Up? yes.
Counter top water filter? Yes. but sadly… no. After two attempts to get a machine that worked properly I just have to admit that I wanted to so badly to like it, but I don’t.
I was using Cuisinart 2 Gallon Counter Top Water Filtration Machine. It has a cold, room temperature and a hot setting. My first complaint, is that it was a really big PIA to set up twice and have the machine not work to my standards twice. I really have no idea if it was just a coindence that I recieved two that didn’t work right? But because it is a filter, you have to run tons of water to through it to get the carbon taste out?
I never did get the carbon taste out. I could still smell it. My next complaint? The Hot water never got more then a little warm. Not warm enough for tea, cooking Ramen Noodles, nothing. Basically for me, that aspect was just a waste.
The Machine also runs a lot. A lot. And it is pretty loud. We have an open kitchen, living room space and it was pretty dreadful. And now I just feel like I am being picky, but that is just how it is.
So now I have cold carbon tasting water. fail!
I will say in the defense of Cuisinart, that several other bloggers have tried the machine and really liked it. Cat at 3Kids and Us liked hers. and it even gets a 4 of 5 stars on Amazon
I could have fluffed it, reviewed and driven traffic here by giving one away, but I hope this post proves my honesty and integrity. Save your $147.00 and use it to purchase an Aquasana counter top kitchen faucet water filter. We have one, I love it to pieces. Granted it also doesn’t get the water hot enough to make tea, but it does clean our water, and then all I have to do is refrigerate it!
The counter top filter I have is only $124! And if you use this link, you can save 20%.

Make it Monday! Pumpkin Mask, Gourd Mask ! Beta Carotene!
November 28, 2009 by Karissa
Filed under Recipes: Home, Skin, Food
anyone have any leftover pumpkins? How about those decorative gourds?
Don’t throw them out just yet! Cut them open, pull out the insides and get gorgeous!
Gourds and Pumpkins contain vitamins A, B1, B2, and B3, C, magnesium, folic acid, zinc, copper, phosphorus, manganese, iron and tons of beta-carotene! Plus they have so many anti-oxidants and hydroxy acids they act as a mild non-chemical, non-abrasive exfoliant.
To make your own Pumpkin/Gourd Mask simply:
- Scoop out the pulp, place in a blender or food processor and blend.
- If you have dry skin add 1 tablespoon of honey or yogurt per 1/4 cup of pumpkin or gourd puree.
- For acne prone or oily skin add 1 egg white. OR dissolve one aspirin in 1 tablespoon of water then add.
- Blend again to mix in other ingredients. (make sure you dissolve the aspirin in the water before hand)
Apply to face, neck and decollete and let sit for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water. This can also be used on the backs of hands for age spots. All of the vitamin C and beta-carotene will help to aid in healing of aging skin, age spots, hyperpigmentation, scarring, dry skin and so much more!
If you have sensitive skin, make sure you patch test to make sure your skin will tolerate. Enjoy your vibrant skin!

Naya Organics Review
Less packaging by buying bulk and reusing bags, boxes and containers = more earth friendly products at more affordable prices.
Less gas consumption in buying independent and locally = more clean air for us to breathe and more local businesses.
Less waste going into the landfill by composting and recycling = more space on the planet for plants and trees to grow.
Less harsh ingredients and unnecessary packaging = more paraben FREE containers and safer, cleaner, organic ingredients for your skin.
Less machine made products = more handmade goodness and valuable resources drained by plugging things in.
I was blessed to run into Naya Organics was browsing the web one day. Only to later find the creator and I had some pretty similar background events to our lives. This of course made me even more excited to try the line!
Sticking to the philosophy of ‘Less is More’ when it comes to your skin, NAYA Organics uses only plant & food based ingredients to create clean & SIMPLE products that nourish your skin and the Earth! There’s nothing hard to pronounce and the list of ingredients doesn’t go on forever… just HONEST organic goodness!
A clear standout is Naya’s Rose Hips Organic Body Oil. Just look at these ingredients.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil – oleic acid and antioxidants, Shea Oil – anti-aging properties, Vitamin E Oil – healing and nourishing, Evening Primrose Oil – linoleic acid, Rosehip Seed Oil – skin elasticity, Rose Hips – Vitamins A, C, D, E, Rose Buds – sweetness, neutralizer, Rose Otto EO – anti-depressant, Almond Oil – emollient 9 oz.
I have been using this as a cuticle oil and for rubbing on my elbows. The scent is sweet and light and moisture is LARGE. Full of healing and relieving powers. And just so no one is confused, there is no actual Rose scent. Not flowery at all.
The area under my eyes is always so dry and I have been using this as a eye treatment too. Just once or twice a week, and it has been healing that area and so far no pesky milia I sometimes get when really trying to lay on the moisture.
I also tried the Naya Organic’s Coffee Orange Body Scrub. A real treat. Just a slight hint of coffee and orange. Mainly the scent is created from a mix of all ingredients. Slightly coffee, slightly citrus but a nice rounded earthy tone.
Dead Sea Salt – absorbs toxins, Jojoba Oil – antimicrobial, Vitamin E Oil – healing, Shea Oil – anti-aging, Coffee Grounds – decrease cellulite, Orange Peal – revives mood, Bergomont EO – tames depression, Orange EO – mellows anxiety, Sandalwood EO – antifungal and antibacterial 16 oz.
Moisturizing, exfoliating with all natural organic goodness!
And Naya Organic’s has a lot of specials going on right now! All scrubs are 20% off. She is also have specials on her Garcinia Oil and sampler packs! If you are looking for a truly unique gift for someone special this holiday season, Naya Organics will have it!
