Babies & Kids Natural Skincare
Navigating skincare for your little ones can be difficult with so many products, marketing and ads everywhere, most claiming to be “gentle and safe”. Many of these products are in fact not safe. The best thing you can do is:
Keep it simple Keep the routine no fuss and easy. Older children can even participate in making some of their own skin care items. Go to the book store and read up on some at home remedies using ingredients straight from the kitchen or garden!
Cleanse- Forget the liquid soaps, most are chocked full of chemicals including artificial dyes and the packaging is wasteful. Use natural, gentle bar soaps; you can chop them into small pieces to lengthen their life. Check out our Mellow Mandarin Soap. This soap can also be used to shampoo the hair. Moisturize- Many children do not even need a moisturizer! If they do have dry skin/patches, read labels very carefully before purchasing a lotion or creme. You can also make your own moisturizers at home or even just use a light oil such as Jojoba or Apricot Kernel. Condition, Detangle- These products have a plethora of toxic chemicals including synthetic fragrances and petroleum byproducts. Choose very carefully. My favorite conditioner & detangler is made by Aubrey Organics. First aid- Rashes, cuts, bumps & eczema are sometimes daily occurrences! Many first aid products are filled with ingredients that are harmful in the long run. Especially steroid creme’s which start to thin and damage the skin over time. Having a good first aid product on hand at all times is essential. Tilvee Mandarin Remedy Balm is made with nourishing oils & butters that soothe and moisturize, Calendula & Chickweed extract speed healing and our essential oil blend aids in preventing infection. Read labels When reading labels, look for healthy ingredients you recognize such as Aloe, Jojoba, Avocado, Shea butter, Beeswax, etc. Avoid these: Fragrance, Propylene or Butylene Glycol, DEA-MEA-TEA, Sodium Lauryl or Laureth Sulfate, DMDM or Urea, PEG, Parabens, FD & C Color, Mineral oil or petroleum jelly, isopropyl alcohol. Get to know ingredients If you see questionable ingredients on your labels, look them up. Get to know ingredients commonly used in skin care products; it will make shopping for these products much easier. An informational website is www.cosmeticdatabase.com (skin deep database). Go there and look up any ingredient or product by name to see it’s “toxic rating”. ![]()
