My New Acne Battle and Regimen

I think you all know my struggle with Adult Acne right?  I am sorry to talk about it all the time, but there are days when I don’t want to leave the house because of it.  It is depressing, and well a complete embarrassment.  No fun being 31 and having more breakouts then when I was a teenager.  I am constantly struggling to find new products, and even though I give them all a fair shake, they always fail me.

I have tried ProActiv.  Dermatologists.  Anti-biotics, Retin-A.  Other Prescriptions, and it seems like all the natural products there are.  I have stubborn resistant acne.  Seems it is just like it’s host!  Stubborn as a mule!  ;-)

I was looking through affiliates the other night, and saw a sorta cheesy ad for Carley’s Clear and Smooth.  But what I noticed about it, was that there were all these great testimonials.  And most of them were also linked to Ebay and to Acne.org.  You can fake testimonials on your website, but you can’t fake positive Ebay feedback.

So after a couple hours I decided to order it. What I really like about it, is that the product is pretty much all natural.  Basically it is saponified oils and soaps, just like natural bar soaps, but liquid, with Walnut Shell Powder for exfoliation (very very fine), Benzoyl Peroxide and a few essential oils.  It does have a few other ingredients, but you can read about them all on their website.

The trick is that after you wash with that, you use their natural soap, to wash it off.  So you don’t actually let the Benzoyl Peroxide sit on your skin all day, killing beneficial bacteria as well as the acne bacteria too.  You also only use that once a day, and then use that natural soap once more a day to clean your skin.  I ordered 4 products in total, the treatmeant above, a night time moisturizer, a daytime moisturizer, and a mask.  They actually send you a natural soap with with most treatments, plus foundations samples too!

They also have a crazy return policy.  You can send back the bottles at any time, and they will send you a refund, plus shipping costs.  YES, plus shipping. You can send it back after a year.  Bottles empty.  That is how much they believe in their products.  Just check out their Ebay feedback.

Anyways, if you want to read more, please do, I will leave the link at the bottom of the post.  So when I placed my order, I let them know that I run a blog, and that I would be really interested in posting about them.  A couple emails later, Stephen noticed that I already had their button up, and he refunded my money!  $63 worth! Now doesn’t they tell you that they stand behind their products working?  I was so floored!!  I am so happy, and anxious to try these products, I can’t stand it!  Of course I don’t want to get my hopes up, having been let down so many times, but I can’t help but think these are going to work.  They have a great policy of Buy 3 Get 1 Free!

So what I am going to do, is post 2 week photos.  Every two weeks, i will post photos of my updated skin.  I am so scared shitless to do this, but here goes nothing!!!  I guess if I can post a photo of me with black/blue hair I can do this!

carleyscarleys2

So yes, please ask questions, I will try to be as transparent and open as I can be!  I don’t actually have the system yet, but it should be here by wednesday!  I have stopped what I was using before, as they suggested I discontinue it to help this system work better!!

If anyone wants to start it will me, I would love to have a partner!

    Hi Jennifer.

I stopped it because, even though it gave me gorgeous skin, it really only seemed to clear my acne about 70%. I knew there had to be something that would perform better for me. in a sense carleys is a form of oil cleansing in that it doesn’t use harsh soaps and strip the skin of all oils. the soap used will actually moisturize and leave a clean but yet moisturized feeling. And the moisturizers i use by them have healthy oils too. Personally the oils and the washcloth method seemed to irritate my skin a little too much, the wash clothes more then the oil. feel free to email at prissygreen at gmail.com if you have any more questions! always happy to help!

i truly hope one of these treatments work for you!!

    Hi Karissa-

Been reading your blog since I came across your site while researching the oil cleansing method (OCM) for adult acne. You seemed to have such a positive result with the OCM early on so I’m left to wonder what happened to make you stop? I think you started the OCM in early-mid 2009 (with what appeared to be a positive result) but now i see in later 2009 you’ve switched to using Carley’s method, instead. Before I consider the latter purchase, please give me some insight as to what went wrong with the me OCM. Thanks.

I replied to Andrea via email, but let her know that she could send me her pics and i would gladly post them, so that you could check out two personal results! i hope she is really game, I think that would be fantastic!
I also let her know that she doesn’t have to use the treatment in the shower, I don’t shower everyday, I didn’t today, my skin gets to dry, and I don’t like to wash my hair everyday, so I just used the treatment on my face via sink, and then washed my face with the washcloth via the sink too.

I hear you about the concealer. I will one up you and say that I don’t go to the mailbox with at least some powder on! Acne can be so defeating. I will have an outbreak and feel really bad about myself. Then they clear, and all of a sudden, the sky seems bluer! I realize I shouldn’t tie so much into the niceness of my skin, but it’s so hard not to. It seems like a basic thing to want clear skin, and I’ll keep trying until I find the perfect solution. Hopefully this is it!

I did notice in the instructions that you are supposed to use the treatment in the shower once a day. I gave birth to my second daughter a month ago, and I have to admit, daily showers are not always possible. I will try, though! Anything to get clear skin!

Can I post pics in my comments? I will post some, if I can.

I am so proud of you, Karissa!!! I know how hard it must have been to take “bare boned” pics. You’re absolutely stunning, sweetie, inside and out!

I am dying to try this line of products, but Pevonia seems to be working for me right now(thanks bunches!). However, I am bookmarking this in case my skin becomes immune. I woke up yesterday with 2 hellacious cystic pimples on my chin and jawline and cursed Yaz and Pevonia all damn day. I’m chalking the pimps up to the beer I drank this weekend, mixed with the humidity. We’ll see.

OK, maybe I’ll order the mask LOL I’m not currently using one and haven’t in about 2 weeks.

Look forward to your future pics, K!

Karissa, Thanks for sharing your photos with us. My son has been struggling with acne for over 10 years. When he is on anti-biotics, then his acne is under control. One month after finishing the pills, his acne returns and we head back to the Dermatologist. If this works for you, I will definitely buy some for my son. Good luck to you and Andrea!

I think it’s awesome that you’re doing this and sharing it with us! My little brothers (both 20) have terrible acne and if this works you can bet that I’m buying it for them too. (Mine is fortunately controlled by the pill – nifty little added bonus there!)

This might be a good thing to try, too. I also have more acne as a grown-up than I ever did as a kid- personally I think it has to do with hormones added to the general food supply.

I cannot WAIT to see how these work for you!!!! My skin looks exactly the same and NOTHING has ever worked for me either – I never ever had skin like this until the past fews years – I’m 26. Can’t wait to read your reviews and see the pictures! :)

Oh, Andrea! a partner in crime! or in trial anyways! ;) proactiv did the same thing for me, it worked for a bit, the quit, and actually after it stopped working, my face cleared up on its own. then I had a tubal pregnancy, and that set my skin in total havoc all over again, that was about 6 years ago. ever since. it has been non stop. I won’t even run to the store for milk with out throwing on concealer! augh!
I feel for you! I know we have all (all your above) have had some of the same problems. it is such a hassle. I look at some women, and just wish for their skin. I can’t tell you how many times I have broken plans, or wished I could call into work.

saying prayers for all of us! and of course, I will keep everyone posted!

    Andrea says:

Well, I’m a sucker for a sales pitch, and you convinced me (along with all that eBay feedback) to take the plunge. I ordered a set, too. I will volunteer to be your partner! I also have adult-onset acne. I didn’t have a single blemish throughout puberty, and then was attacked my 2nd year of college. That was 11 years ago (I just celebrated my 3rd 29th birthday!), and my acne has not subsided in the least. Some products, such as Proactiv, work briefly, but I always seem to grow immune to them eventually. My acne is very persistent! I am not truly expecting this to be any different, but if it will buy me a reprieve for a little while, I will consider it money well spent! And that awesome return policy really makes this a no-brainer. Nothing to lose, right?

    Good luck to us both!

I love that you are doing this. You are not alone in this struggle and shouldn’t feel embarrassed at all! I am going to be 30 in about 2 months and I am also struggling with adult acne. I never had a problem as a teenager either. I’m with you on this one and I can’t wait to see your results! And thanks for sharing…I know it’s a tough subject.
