The Juice Swap Party Giveaway

Ever sit around and chat with your friends and then realize that you have clothes that would fit someone?  Maybe you grew out or lost weight and can’t wear them anymore?  Most of us aren’t that hard on our fashionable clothing.  But I know if you are like me, the mention gets out there, and then basically nothing happens.

“Oh, Julie, I have the perfect shirt for you, it doesn’t fit me right, i will bring it the next time I see you.”  um, yea.  then 6 months later, it is not in season and it goes to Goodwill.  I know I can’t be the only one!

So what about having a Swap Party?  Get some super swanky details and tips from Blogher Contributing Editor Trisha Okubo, who also covers the style beat on her blog, Omiru.  Look at how green this would be.  First no waste in the clothing, furniture etc.  always remember one man’s trash is another’s treasure!  now don’t take actual trash….

All the details and thinking behind this program comes from the Juice.  The Juice was created in support of Tropicana Trop 50 – a  new orange juice beverage with 50% less cal and 50% less sugar. The Juice lives on BlogHer and is a unique online community where women can exchange practical ideas and tips on how to get more of what they want and less of what they don’t. The Juice is all about the “good stuff.”

The Juice has a sweet coupon to save you some money while saving those precious calories,  http://tropicana.com/join_us/trop50/?aid=thejuice.

The Juice is offering one Prissy Green reader a $100 Grocery store coupon so that one of you can get all the makings for your very own SWAP PARTY! Nice huh? You name it, any grocery in the US.  That is doubly GREEN!

And thanks to Heather at Rookie Moms , Amber at Painfully Hip, and this week’s Trop 50 Spotlight from Mamabird, whose post inspired this Juice episode.  Great video!

Next week: What’s your “Core” competency?  We talk to a fitness expert who reminds us of what our core is and how we can work it without even noticing.

Tropicana-Trop-50-142x300

Thank you Blogher and Tropicana Trop50 for this great opportunity and also special thanks to Emilie at Baby Loving Mama blog, she was the one that got this great information passed on to me. Please show your thanks by commenting on her blog.  She also runs some great contests and has some truly fantastic content.

So… How to enter?  Watch the latest Juice episode and tell me something you learned about hosting your own swap party!  See now you are one step closer to having your very own with a $100 gift card to buy all the goodies!

I had never even heard of swap parties, so I learned a whole lot from the video – in this economy, though, it makes perfect sense that “swapping is the new shopping.” I learned that you can host parties for more than just clothes and swap furniture, household item, even services that you have to offer. The latter was my favorite idea – swapping the skills your guests are good at is not only a great way to either learn something new or have something useful done for you (and, of course, saving money!), it’s a real friendship-strengthening exercise. Thanks for the giveaway!

    Liz says:

For a changing area in a small apartment I have a solution that worked for me when we had guests over in my tiny one bedroom. Take two spare flat bedsheets. Take the top fold of the bed sheet and fold over a clothesline or rope and tack in place with safety pins. Then you can either thumbtack or screw in at least three cup holders (which is much better)into the ceiling. Hang the sheets up by the rope in one corner of the room – making the other two sections of a square. One that your landlord won’t punish you for as you didn’t make holes in the wall! This time a year you can find sales on inexpensive twin sheets to use for this.

I learned a lot from watching it and what I took away from watching it is if you host a swap party, you need to be specific in your invitations so that your guests know exactly what to do and what to bring, what to expect, and what the rules are. Providing them with this information up front will insure for a successful party. Thanks so much for teh chance to enter.

I actually host Clothes Swaps quarterly at my house. It’s a fabulous tradition.

Everyone brings their clothing separated into categories (Tops, Bottoms, Dresses & Suits, Shoes & Accessories, Maternity & Nursing, and Kids).

Everyone then sorts all of their own items in designated areas – I make signs ahead of time for each room/area to keep this process organized.

Then, I “release” everyone to shop and try on clothes and munch on appetizers. It’s super fun and usually everyone walks away with something “new.” :)

I have been to a baby clothing swap – such a great way to get stuff when you had a boy and then are having a girl, or vise versa. Expectations were met and beyond at that party. A lot of work for the host though, especially the way they are talking about at these parties- of course it sounds a bit more like a sophisticated party LOL. We were happy to trade from piles dumped out of storage containers.

Invite people that are the same size. You’d have to have quite a pool of friends to be able to do that though. One thing I learned from hosting yarn swaps is that each person has to bring a LOT of items in order to offer the best chances for swaps to happen. The worst is when no one has anything that anyone else wants, then it’s a bust!
