Make Your Own Natural Insect Repellant

Like me and don’t want to spray yourself and kids down with chemical laden bug sprays? Try this extremely simple Insect Repellent.

INGREDIENTS:

About 3 oz of Jojoba Oil or Olive Oil (any oil can really be used)

30 drops lemon balm essential oil

15 drops clove essential oil

5 drops carnation oil

Blend and enjoy the bug freedom!

If you prefer you can use about a 1/2 oz of non-flavored vodka, mix the oils in and blend well, then add 2 1/2 oz of water. you can use this as a spray, just make sure you always shake well. I do find both effective but the oil recipe is probably more so.

I’ve also heard that lavender is a natural repellent. I have a couple of nice bunches growing at the house, but have yet to try it. Luckily we have a few bats that patrol the area every night, and we get few mosquito bites.

As an Aromatherapist, I would not suggest using Clove Essential Oil on children at that dilution. It is an analgesic oil and is not really considered safe for topical use on kids.
