In The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget, Josh Dorfman—host of the Sirius Satellite Radio program of the same name—provides comprehensive guidance to fashion-forward consumers who are as concerned about the long-term health of our planet as they are about the design of their bathroom fixtures. Covering topics that range from clothing to electronic gadgetry, home decor to recreation, and gardening to financial investment, Dorfman lets us know which trends to watch and which eco-conscious products—cars, toothbrushes, cell phones, pet accessories—to buy. Green, it turns out, can be an extremely stylish color.

What I truly love about this book, is that it not only teaches you the things you want to know NOW, but it also gives you resources to stay on top of it for the future. He lists many, oodles of many online resources for everything he discusses, from clothes to water conservation.

Here are a few things you will learn in the book to give you an idea of how truly remarkable it is!

Discover new eco-trends and innovations such as how:

Chegg.com rents college textbooks to students for a fraction of the price and conserves trees

Recyclebank makes home recycling easy and profitable and keeps tons of trash out of landfills

SolarCity eliminates the upfront costs of residential solar panels so people can afford them

Swapstyle.com connects you with fashionistas around the world with designer goods to barter , so you don’t have to consume new goods and spend $$$ to look great

Babies ‘R Us offers the widest assortment of affordable, natural and organic baby products available anywhere

Cities such as Boston offer free WiFi on trains to boost public transportation ridership, reduce traffic congestion, and cut greenhouse gas emissions

You can easily and affordably have your designer jeans and contribute to a green planet too. From raising eco-conscious kids to greening your daily commute, the Lazy Environmentalist Josh Dorfman provides insights into the next wave of green innovation and the products and services that will lighten your planetary impact and lower your expenses.

Find bargain basement deals on stylish organic bedding and bamboo furnishings at the largest retailers in the world. Score instant rebates on everything from compact fluorescent light bulbs to energy-efficient air conditioners. And earn reward points for carpooling with friends.

In a time when many people are feeling financially restricted, The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget is your guide to effortlessly saving the planet while keeping some extra cash in your pocket.

We do all the basic green lifestyle things. As for semi-unique actions, I keep empty dry cat food bags and use them to collect the dirty (earth-friendly) litter. I don't dispose of the bag until it's full. This saves a lot over using one plastic bag for each litterbox cleaning!! (And the bag contains the odor since it has an inner coating that was meant to keep the cat food 'fresh' (use holistic cat food as well). Thanks!!

My husband and I car pool to work.
We pay a local farm money upfront to help them cover all the costs in planting, in return, we get weekly boxes of fresh produce for the rest of the season. Yummy!

My family buys from local organic farmers each week at the farmer's market. Sometimes we have potlucks with friends where everything must be local!

We also use canvas bags constantly and walk to the grocery store and farmer's market instead of driving.

We don't do a whole lot "out of the norm" to save the environment…I use reuseable bags, constantly remind the kids to turn off lights/electronics they're not using. But we also sometimes join groups down on our local beach to pick up trash that has been left or has washed ashore. My children love helping the wildlife have a cleaner environment!

It may be considered more of a bribe than a help LOL – but we have gallon glass jugs in each of the kids rooms to encourage turning off the lights.

Every hour or so, we do a 'room check' A penny goes in everytime the lights are off; 2 pennies are taken if the light's on and the room is empty.

We also save water and energy to help Santa save his snow!

I suppose this could be semi-unique. I work in a place where we receive lots of mail on a daily basis. With this mail comes lots of cover letters that we don't need so they get tossed in the mail! This is at LEAST 100 pieces of paper (usually NICE paper) that is tossed out everyday! It was really bothering me so I started collecting them and now use them to print on on the side where they have not already been printed. Example – I print a lot of coupons out from the internet – these papers are perfect for this! :)

I don't know how unique these are, and forgive a little self-promotion, but I started a Back2Tap campaign at my school, as well as a recycling program. I also make all of our cleaning products, bath and skin care, and baby products myself. We don't use disposable paper towels, napkins or tissues. I make my products affordable so that others can easily go greener too. And I've eliminated all preserved-specimen dissections from my school district's middle school science curriculum. I'd love to win this book and collect a whole bunch of fresh ideas!

    Thanks!
