Natural Joy Review and Giveaway!

June 14, 2009 by Karissa

Don’t be fooled by all the other products claiming to be “NATURAL” or “ORGANIC” these days.

Many products labeled as natural or organic, even those sold in health food stores, still contain Propylene Glycol, Parabens, Synthetic Fragrances, Artificial Coloring and other questionable ingredients. The only way to really know is to read the ingredient label. We read the labels and do the research for you!

Discover FREEDOM FROM ARTIFICIALITY as Natural Joy carries truly Natural and Organic Cosmetics & Body Care products made using only natural and organic ingredients, coloring and fragrances. None of the products we carry are tested on animals, and they’re great for sensitive skin.

This is the message you first see when you get to Natural Joy. They completely take the guess work out of your skin care research. I mean, we have to face it, we don’t always have time to research every product before purchase. Well you don’t have to worry when purchasing from Natural Joy, they have done it all for you!

They also carry an extensive line of Cosmetics to hair care and skin care too. Anti-aging? covered. Skin Lightening? Covered. As well as toothpaste and deodorants and treatments for Rosacea and Eczema.

I was so lost when I was given the chance to choose a couple products to review. I must have flipped pages for two days! I finally settles on Organic Facial Serum by Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques.

Most serums have been treated, processed or heated during production which causes much of the natural plant nutrients to be destroyed. This exquisite serum contains only cold-pressed, certified organic plant oils which have been formulated and packaged without any heat, thus preserving the potent properties of every ingredient.

Organic Jojoba, Evening Primrose, Rosehip, and Borage Seed oils have deeply absorbant, emollient-rich & anti-inflammatory properties. Organic Pumpkin Seed and Sea Buckthorn oils are exceptionally high in Vitamins A, C, & E, minerals and essential fatty acids to deeply nourish the skin and maintain elasticity.

This serum is so quick to absorb, but deeply conditions and moisturizes my skin. My eyes love it! The skin around my mouth and eyes always gets really dried out, even when it is humid. This serum has not let that happen at all. It also doesn’t break me out. All of the oils are easily absorbed and are more like your own skins oil. The beauty of it, is you need just a teeny drop to cover you whole face and neck. or add it to your own moisturizer and then apply. Great for dry cuticles too!

I also got to try Lip Tints by Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques. (these are on sale right now!) I can’t even tell you how much I use my Egyptian Dusk Lip Tint. It really has a great coverage and it truly moisturizes my lips. Infused with Organic Castor Oil and healing Organic Rosehips to soothe dry, chapped lips. Organic Coconut, Jojoba, & Olive Oils to moisturize and soften your lips. Essential amino acid and Lysine blend to aid in the formation of collagen. A Pomegranate and White Grape essential oil blend gives these Lip Tints a wonderful taste and scent. I haven’t really been using anything else since I received this, as far as color on my lips. Sometimes I use it and my THINgloss. I am in love with the color and the hydration. There are 4 colors to choose from which means everyone can find one they adore as much i do mine!

I have been given the chance to have a giveaway with Natural Joy. One Prissy Green Reader will get their choice of TWO Lip Tints by Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques OR Organic Facial Serum and a small facial loofah.

To enter, simply go to Natural Joy and find a product or two that you would like to try and why!

Chiquita Frozen Smoothies, Review and Three Day Giveaway

June 12, 2009 by Karissa

Chiquita Smoothies are a brand new product. Check here to see if a store near you carries them. The Smoothies are located in the frozen food aisle, and just need to be blended with ice and water to make three eight-ounce servings. These are a healthy and economical alternative to other smoothie products, plus they are all-natural, and each 8oz Smoothie is equal to one whole serving of fruit. There are currently four Chiquita Smoothie flavors: Banana Colada, Peach Mango, Strawberry Banana, and Mixed Berry.

Chiquita Smoothies are made with REAL fruit and naturally full of antioxidants.

I was so impressed with the package i received to try these out. First it was a HUGE box, and in it contained a NEW Oster Fusion Blender, a Blender attachment by Oster called the Blend N Go, 8 Chiquita Smoothies (2 of each variety) and some cups and napkins, as well as a insulated lunch bag. I only thought I was getting coupons so you can imagine my shock! (good shock!)
and I love the Oster Fusion Blender! It works as well, if not better as the blender we already have (that is now the garage blender for cookouts) and that was a $200 Blender the mister bought about a year ago! Get the Oster Fusion here at Amazon for only $79.99 Oster BRLY07-Z00 600-Watt Fusion Blender

I was doing a cleanse the week it arrived so I had to wait a few days to test the blender and the smoothies, but they were well worth the wait! Craig agrees! We tried the Stawberry Banana and it is awesome. I even added a banana and some frozen strawberries. (see website for recipes) We both loved it. I totally could have ate the whole can myself! It came out smooth and frothy, just like a smoothie should. They blend easily too. The only extra step I have to take, is either to leave it out on the counter for an hour or so, or let it defrost a little in hot water, as they are too hard to get out of the recyclable packing at first.

Since I had added additional fruit the first go around, I decided to make the Peach Mango with out anything extra. WOW, how delicious. These are extremely tasty. I could taste the peach and the mango very distinctly. The Mixed Berry is really excellent too. The only one I wasn’t completely crazy about was the Banana Colada. I do think if I had made it into an adult cocktail I might have liked it more, it just was a little too Colada for me. Craig like it though!

I have been given the chance to let 2 Prissy Green readers try all 4 flavors! Three of you will receive coupons for 4 free Chiquita Smoothies. (please go to here and make sure a store near you sells them!)

To enter simply tell me which flavor you are most excited to try!

Fabulous Friday!

I think I told you guys that Craig and mines favorite place to eat is the Bosphurus a little Turkish place in downtown. Now I have been eating there since it opened and in my quest to find their incredible Eggplant salsa I came across some wonderful Turkish recipes. I am going to try and feature some more RAW food here and see what happens! Enjoy!

This recipe comes from Binnur’s Turkish Cookbook

Cucumber with Walnuts

(Cevizli Salatalik)

Cucumber with Walnuts
2 small cucumbers
1/2 cup walnuts, crumbled
1 garlic clove, mashed with salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
Pinch of salt

Grate the cucumbers, squeeze a little bit to remove access water with your hand. Don’t squeeze too much! Toss them with walnuts, garlic, lemon juice, crushed pepper and salt. Serve it cold.

Karma Organic Spa Review and Giveaway

June 11, 2009 by Karissa

Karma Organic Spa has saved my toes from nakedness! No longer do I have to worry that my mom might see my naked toes and make a comment about it. (she is quite the nail person!) And the lovely thing about Karma Organic Spa Nail Polishes they are 100 percent natural non-toxic, chemical-free (no Toluene, Formaldehyde, or DBP), and includes more than 80 colors, including glow-in-the-dark shades for children. View color chart.

They also last longer then regular polish! The colors are gorgeous. I personally think they dry faster then most too. I am always too impatient to let my fingernails dry and always end up ruining them, the couple times I used my Karma Organic Spa Nail Polish, no smudges!

Karma Organic Spa also offers a AWESOME Nail Polish Remover. I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this stuff is.
* 100% Biodegradable

* 100 % Soy and Corn based

* Non-toxic

* Non-carcinogenic

* Free of any Petroleum Ingredients

* Derived from Farm Crops which in turn supports american farming

* Packaged in 100% recyclable glass bottles

* Comes in Lavendar, Tea Tree, or Unscented

It actually moisturizes your nails and cuticle while removing the polish. I do suggest washing your hands before reapplying new nail polish as it leaves an oily residue, but I will take the residue over the drying effects of regular removers any day! I have the Tea Tree Scent and I really do love it. I use one cotton ball and it takes off all my polish on my toes.

Karma Organic Spa also offers Body Care, hair care, Skin Care and even more items for your nails. PLUS if you live in the area of Ridgewood, NJ you can go in and have all kinds of spa treatments! Tell them Prissy Green Sent you! They have been so kind and sweet to me.

They are offering one Prissy Green reader 2 Nail Polish colors of their choice, Base Coat, Top Coat and the super Nail Polish Remover. To enter, go to Karma Organic Spa and either pick out another item you would like to try besides the ones I mentioned here, or tell me what 2 nail color choices you would make.

Food Inc.

June 11, 2009 by Karissa
Filed under Info You Want to Know

I really want to go see “Food Inc.” a film from Magnolia Pictures, produced by Eric Schlosser (investigative journalist and author of Fast Food Nation) and directed by Robert Kenner (www.robertkennerfilms.com

). BUT it isn’t playing anywhere near me, except for Cincinnati, but unfortuntly that weekend we will be in Louisville, KY for a music festival.

It opens this Friday June 12th (tomorrow) in New York, LA and San Francisco, and on subsequent dates in more parts of the country (view completely listings here) if people go to see it, it will be released nationwide, which is really where it needs to be seen.

It’s a film about, as you may have guessed, the food industry, and it presents honest, sometimes shocking accounts of practices in our country and how the food industry is truly the #1 health threat to our country (1 in 3 children born after the year 2000 will develop Type II Diabetes). The cost is really much greater than we can all imagine. At its heart though, it’s a film about a nation that wants to and desperately needs to put the power back in the hands of the people and I guarantee that it will be an empowering and beautiful experience for you no matter where you lie on the vegan-to-carnivore or Wal-Mart-to-farmer’s market spectrum.

Please go see this film, and please tell others to go see this film. You can’t afford not to.

“Food Inc.” premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September to standing ovations and rave reviews. Per Eric Schlosser (he was at the screening last night), “The fast food industry spends over $10 Billion a year on marketing and advertising. Magnolia Pictures’ marketing budgeting for this film is far less.” Thus I am taking it upon myself and enlisting you to spread the word about this film to anyone you know who eats food.

You can watch a short trailer and learn more here: www.foodincmovie.com

Official Synopsis:

In “Food, Inc.,” filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli–the harmful bacteria that cause illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults. Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms’ Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms’ Joel Salatin, “Food, Inc.” reveals surprising–and often shocking truths–about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

RARE2B® skincare is free from alcohol, artificial fragrance or colors, formaldehyde/formaldehyde donors, parabens, petroleum by-products, PEG & TEA and GMO materials. All our products are made with natural preservatives.

I was able to try out their Toning Cleanser, it is claimed to Removes dirt and the day’s build-up from the surface of the skin gently and effectively. This unique 2-in-1 formula not only cleanses, but tones the skin helping to reduce the appearance of pore size.
2-in-1 formula not only cleanses, but tones the skin helping to reduce the appearance of pore size.

Includes Proprietary RARE2B® FLAWLESS complex:

  • Grapefruit – encourages cell turnover
  • Pineapple – dissolves dead skin cells
  • White Horehound – protects against and minimizes UV
    induced damage
  • Peppermint – stimulates skin’s metabolic progression
  • Witch Hazel – effective cleanser and astringent
  • Cedar Bark – rich in tannins and provides excellent toning

I found the Toning Cleanser to be nice and mild, it does produce a lather but not bubbles all over like some, which I have found can actually be a good thing for your skin! It left my skin feeling clean, but not tight. It is very refreshing, and I will give credit to the peppermint and Witch Hazel, usually with either of these two ingredients my eyes get a little irritated, but this cleanser is nice and mild and didn’t effect my eyes at all.

Rare Natural has a full skincare selection, with body and facial care. All vegan and all 100% organic.

I have one Toning Cleanser to giveaway to one Prissy Green reader, a $25.95 value. All you have to do to enter is go to Rare Naturals and tell me one other product you would like to try and why!

Skin Deep III Naturopatch and SD Lash Review and Giveaway

June 10, 2009 by Karissa

Skin Deep III has a little bit of everything you need in skin care. Now I will warn you not everything is natural or organic but that is okay! I think you have a good basis by now to find the ingredients and know what to stay away from! Or you can always use this blog for reference!

Skin Deep III is your go to shop to purchase Mama Mio, Naturopatch, SD Lash, Clarisonic, Sprayology and DNA skincare (see that review in a couple weeks)! There are quite a few more lines there, but I just wanted to list the natural ones for you for quick reference, if you want to see the others they are all on the front page!

Since 1990, Skin Deep III has set the standard for excellence in progressive skin care services. We take pride in providing the most advanced anti-aging skin care products and cosmetics on the market.

Our skin care professionals offer superior service and guide you toward a new way to care for yourself. Please email us with your specific questions and needs.

TalkSkin@SkinDeepIII.com

I was able to try out a couple of their product lines. One were the Naturopatch products. I was really excited for this, as I am a semi-aromatherapyholic.

Naturopatch

NATUROPATCHâ„¢ brings you the benefits of ancient botanical healing traditions discreetly and conveniently. Easy to use, with no oily residue, essential oil patches create a personal aromatherapy experience. Naturopatch has 7 different varieties and even has a sampler pack. I tried out their Sweet Dreams patch and their Rose Geranium for PMS discomfort. I immedietly used the Sweet Dreams patch. I can’t say that it worked for me, but I have a pretty severe case of insomnia that a horse tranquilizer can’t touch, so I can’t really base my opinion on that one patch! The PMS discomfort really seemed to help mellow me out and ease some tension off my belly. This is something I wouldn’t want to have to use each month, but i would like to always have it around in case my PMS gets really bad. (which ya know it can!)

The other product I tried was the SD Lash. SD Lash helps promote hair growth of the eyelashes and eyebrows with daily application and results seen in 3-6 weeks. An all-natural, paraben-free formula that does not cause hyperpigmentation and will not cause irritation. So gentle even alopecia and chemotherapy patients have been able to use SD Lash. I love this product. it comes in a pen with a clicker button on the bottom and is a little thicker then some of the eye lash enhancers I have used. It makes it a little easier to get on, but still dries quickly. and remember you aren’t putting all over your lashes just at the base. It also didn’t leave my eyebrows sticky, that surprised me, a pleasant surprise! I have been using it for a few weeks and have noticed a little thickness, no length just yet, but I am holding out! It hasn’t even been 4 weeks yet! and well, i am not the best at remembering to do it everyday! The thickness, tells me it is working and if I was diligent with application, i would have REAL fake eyelashes! lol

Skin Deep III has offered one reader a SD Lash Twist n’ Go Eyelash Conditioner Pen ($49), and two tins of Naturopatches, The Bergamont for Stress and Arnica for Aches and Pains. Each tin has 10 patches and retail for $15 but they have them on sale for $12.99!

To win, got to Skin Deep III and tell me another prduct from the natural lines I mentioned before (or from SD Lash and Naturopatch) you would like to try and why. Just don’t mention the ones I have already listed.

derma e Review and Giveaway

June 10, 2009 by Karissa

I either need to get back to FL or have someone else jump down there, I left my new most favorite lotion down at my Grandma’s condo. derma e’s Tangerine Hand and Body Moisture Therapy is just plain sensuous. The scent is truly just like a freshly peeled tangerine, and the moisture is incredible. it left my skin silky smooth and not heavy, and the moisture didn’t disappear a few hours later, it was still there every morning! That is hard to find even in a body butter!

Let me tell you a little more about derma e. beautiful skin is healthy skin. We strive to develop and produce high quality natural formulas using the most advanced technology and latest research available. Our formulations incorporate powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and herbal remedies to produce therapeutic products that deliver results. We provide honest and in-depth information about our ingredients and our products to help customers make knowledgeable decisions about their skin care. We endeavor to give you the best customer service possible and want you to have a positive experience with derma e®. We believe in healthy skin, a healthy world, and a healthier environment.

But derma e doesn’t stop there with just better our skin, they are also trying to make improvements to the planet in a whole. One way there are doing this is by the Paraguay Project. Purchase authentic handcrafted Paraguayan Spiderweb Lace and it will provide income directly to the hardworking Paraguayan women and their families. All of the profits from their Spiderweb Lace sales will be donated to three not-for-profit organizations in Paraguay; Global…Infancia works to protect the rights of children in Paraguay and Guyra Paraguay fights to protect birds and their habitats, including the beautiful, bio-diverse Paraguayan rainforest and pantanal (the wetlands) and Clyde E. Bay Foundation helps rural poor young women and men get an education and find living wage employment.

I also tried out their Tea Tree and E Antiseptic Creme. It can be used to treat a vatiety of skin conditions including (but not at all limited to) fungal infections such as Athlete’s Foot, Ringworm, nail fungal infections, and Jock Itch because of the natural antiseptic and antifungal properties of Tea Tree Oil. I broke a toe nail really far back one day and this creme kept it from getting infected as well as keeping it moist to help move along the healing process. I also used it on a few blemishes i broke out with on my shoulders. It is a nice fluffy creme that you can either apply or actually massage in if you need to.

derma e has given me the chance to giveaway one product that they carry. Anything goes! To enter, please go to derma e and tell me the one product you would pick and why. (you can change this if you decide to!)
