Hi readers! I just wanted to take a moment to let you know I am now officially on vacation! Whohooo! I will be back late next week. I do have a few reviews and giveaways scheduled for this week, but any that I have for next week, most likely won’t be added in until I get back.

Unless I have a bout with insomnia while i am there, then I might decide to review in Florida but I hope that doesn’t happen!

I love these! My only problem has been the heel edge is raised a little high so i have to be watchful for blisters but all shoes tend to do that when brand new and not worn with socks. These look really great on my feet and super cute with capris. They have phenomenal traction and since it has been raining a lot, these are so much better then my traditional flip flops may-october! Besides my flops, these are the only “real” shoes heading to Florida with me. I had tons of compliments on them too, which typically doesn’t happen with trail shoes, but to me, these really are a cross between lifetyle and trail shoes.

The Terra Linda was designed as a cross terrain running shoe built to provide great balance and stability. Open spacer mesh uppers provide breathability for extended comfort. Tight mesh along the rand keeps out debris while maintaining breathability. Lacing system integrates a framed webbing structure to fully support the upper. Dual density EVA sock liner features ETC lining for reduced friction and heat build up. Arch support and cushioning provide all-day comfort. Integrated TPU shank and arch support provide torsional rigidity and mid-foot support. Shock dispersal plate in the forefoot for stone bruising protection. We have been so busy lately we haven’t really had much of a chance to hit any parks with trails, but I sincerely hope that i will be able to soon. I can’t wait to test this babies out properly! They are insanely comfortable and so supportive. I have used them on the treadmill mostly, but they are crying for me to get them outside!

I have to say that Ahnu has made a believer out of me. I don’t forsee myelf buying another running or trail shoe with out first checking out, in length, my options with Ahnu!

I will admit at first I thought it was a little pricier then I would normally like to pay for Granola but the quality is worth it. I did do a little price comparison and I found the Bare Naked has a 23 oz bag and it is about $17 and that doesn’t include shipping or adding what you want! So maybe it isn’t so bad after all. Now the price can be significantly lower or higher, it really depends on what you add to your mix. The bases start at $3.99 and then you add to that.

My favorite thing? the Nutritional chart that updates automatically when you add something or delete something. Like I realized that adding certain nuts added more protien and fiber, then others, so I was able to pick the best choice for taste and nutrition. I really really dig that.

My mix was low fat granola, goji berries, flax seeds, coconut flakes, walnuts and blueberries. A 2oz serving has 252 calories, and 8 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber. Granted I could have made mine healthier but i like my granola to be a snack. My container is also signed with love from Matt. I love knowing that someone with a true interest in the company is actually mixing these and shipping them. I can’t even begin to tell you how tasty my granola is. I don’t mess with it by adding milk, I just eat it straight. Everything is blended and synergistic with the others and well, it just works, and tastes fantastic. The berries add sweetness and tang, and the nuts add well, that beautiful nutty flavor.

So please if you are interested in buying and nibbling some of the freshest granola around you have found the place.

I am not sure that I can pick a favorite scent. I would maybe choose the Regal Blossom, but I really enjoy the other two as well. I have a hard color skin to match up to, i have red and yellow tones and colors are always too yellow or turn orange on me (or pink). It also has so many raw organic ingredients in it that it actually HEALS the skin. No need for eye cream under this pot of gold, just apply it and you have saved yourself a step. I have also been using it as a spot concealer for acne marks, it works really well at this too. There is no doubt about it, this will be on my list of “Buying When I Run Out!”

Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil Review and Giveaway

Boy I missed you Coconut Oil! When I moved last year, my jar of coconut oil must have been misplaces or got thrown out on accident. And for some strange reason I never replaced it. Then Tropical Traditions steps into my life and sends me a HUGE jar of their Organic Virgin Coconut Oil along with a fascination book, aptly named, Virgin Coconut Oil. I admit, I only put the book down twice and read through it all. Although you can use it as a reference as well, I read it like a story.

Virgin Coconut Oil is a food, and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss.

Virgin Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that supports the body’s immune system. Lauric acid is also found in human mother’s milk. Dr. Mary Enig suggests the average adult include about 3.5 tablespoons of coconut oil per day in their diet to take in an equivalent amount of lauric acid that a nursing infant would receive from breast milk. Did you know that Virgin Coconut Oil is the only oil that is safe to eat after heating? Even my precious Olive Oil I normally use for stir fries isn’t as good for you after being heated as i once thought. They all oxidize and that means they have turned rancid, you may not taste it but your body feels it! So what I have started doing now is using a tablespoon of VCO for my stir fry while cooking, then adding EVOO after I have taken the veggies off the heat. It works perfectly. The mister is not a fan of the coconut flavor but when you cook with it I find most of the flavor cooks out, except for a touch of sweetness. It makes the best grilled cheeses in the world! (and I am normally a real butter girl!)

Some folks enjoy the flavor so much they eat it by the spoonful! You may think that is bad for your heart and cholesterol but in fact, this is a good saturated fat and you body needs these in order to function at it’s best. Your cell membranes in your body are 50% Saturated fat, they need to this to survive and replinish. You need saturated fats to convert calcium to help your skeletal system, and to retain EFA’s (esssential fatty acids). Saturated fats also help your immune system and so much more, BUT when you are getting these saturated fats from “bad oils” your body isn’t able to use it like with Olive Oil or Coconut oil. Saturated fats also sit around your heart and are used by the heart in times of stress.

Coconut Oils are also shown in studies and testimonials to help folks loose weight. WHAT? Fat and oils to help you loose weight sounds absurd but because of the type of fat VCO is, a medium chain triglycerides (MCT). It actually boosts your metabolism. Now this doesn’t mean you can eat a few spoonsfuls and get skinny, you have to replace the Low Chain trigycerides with VCO. Low Chain Triglycerides come from your other plant sources oils.

I know this is a ton of information, and so surprising to some of you. Believe me, when I first read about all of this a few years back, I was a disbeliever. VCO also acts a antivirual and antibacterial in your sytem through it’s most dominent MCT, Lauric Acid. This oil is also fantastic taken on the inside as well as the outside for your skin. Feed your body 3 tablespoons a day and seem how much energy you have and how healthy your skin and hair will be, I promise you will be amazed!

Mother Tongues Review and Giveaway

I live between my mother tongue, Afrikaans, and American English. As someone born and raised in South Africa, I brought to the United States values of community and being that are very different from North American culture. Fourteen years after leaving South Africa, however, I am more convinced than ever that one culture can educate another. And so MotherTongues, our small T-shirt company, was born.
We (my husband is my big inspiration and motivator) started with words known to us that can’t be directly translated into English. We printed these words on T-shirts and defined the words in a poetic description on the back of the shirt. The first T-shirt we did was “ubuntu,” a Zulu or Xhosa word from South Africa. Ubuntu is a term for humaneness, for caring, sharing and being in harmony with all of creation.

They are so unique being solids but not being the overpriced solid perfumes at the retail shops, there are affordable and portable! So easy to throw in your bag and take on a trip, or take for refreshing at night! They are made with moisturizing grapeseed oil as the base so they are refreshing but since grapeseed oil is so light, they are not sticky, so you can use them on your neck and behind your ears!

I worked at a bakery for about 6 years during High School and after and I am pretty much a bread and pastry snob. It has to be good and it has to be fresh. I mean really, getting the goods when they come out of the oven is going to make anyone a snob! Rudi’s proved to delight my tastebuds and they even did it organically! Rudi’s Bakery has been making (crafting) breads for over 30 years, only now they use only certified organic ingredients and no preservatives.

I didn’t even give the UPS man time to get in his truck before I had the box open and was munchin on a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel! and these are normal sized bagels here people, you can eat the top and bottom in one sitting! Those didn’t last very long!

Neither did the Spelt Tortillas! We eat a Mexican meal at least 3 nights out of the week so we used these as out wraps and wow, that really added a new fresh punch of flavor I wanted! Mister makes a really good Sour Cream and BBQ sauce for chicken and we used this and added the normal taco type fixins to it and it was so good, the best he has made and I give credit to the Spelt Tortillas!

Mister LOVES English Muffins and Rudi’s carries Whole Wheat English Muffins. He had one of those out of the box and toasted with Peanut Butter before the UPS man got out of the neighborhood! I only got one of those, but in his defense he only got one of my bagels! HA! All I put on mine was a some butter (real butter of course) and some honey. Delicious!

I also tried their 7 Grain with Flax bread. Now this probably wouldn’t be your kids favorite bread but I love a nice thick piece of bread to make a good thick sandwich! I need something to hold my veggies on! And this bread was and is it! It isn’t grainy in flavor or taste, it just has the hearty thickness that good sandwich bread needs. I love finding breads that have Flax, it is so good for you and you lose most of the benefits if you only use the supplements, like taking oils and such.
