Novena Maternity Review and Giveaway

May 18, 2009 by Karissa

What a unique and beautiful package I received from Novena Maternity! It all arrived in a gorgeous insulated, mini-diaper bag, that you could still use for short trips and it also had one each of all of their products. Trista from the bachelor loves her Novena products to much that she purchased 56 bottles of the Organic Fruit Face Wash to give as shower gifts for her most recent lil boy!

A little detailing of Novena,

The Original Organic Maternity Facial Skin Care Line
Caring for your skin and baby since 2003

I am Jeanette D. Garcia Acosta CME the Novena MOM and a Licensed Medical Esthetician for over a decade. In 2003 I embarked on a mission to find a complete skincare line for my Pregnant and infertility patient clients that were free of Parabens (preservative), Sulfates (foaming agent), and Phthalates (bonding agent), which are chemicals found in 90% of all personal care products. Studies have shown that these chemicals could cause infertility, birth defects, reproductive problems in boys, early puberty in girls and even cancer.

When I did not find a suitable product line, I quickly decided to find an organic lab that could collaborate with me in developing a line that was safe, effective and addressed skin problems associated with pregnancy, (unbalanced/dehydrated, breakouts, brown spots, and stretch marks).

Novena Maternity knows how important staying natural and still looking beautiful is and that is why they are ORGANIC, VEGAN, NATURAL, ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE and ANIMAL FRIENDLY. Careful consideration was taken when choosing the organic/natural ingredients for this maternity skincare line due to the fact that even holistic herbs and oils can be very harmful in certain stages of pregnancy. And of course Sulfate, Phthalate and paraben free. While also being Vegan and organic.

Just like Trista, I really loved the Organic Fruit Face Wash is so gentle yet effective at removing a days worth of grime. I may not be “with baby” but my face problems definitely stem from hormones and I think these products are great for any woman with these issues! The Organic Citrus Blemish Lotion was what brought me to Novena. I thought it would work perfectly on my skin. and it does. Aloe, lavender, tea tree oil and jojoba oil are just a few key ingredients that really make this lotion work and penetrate the pores to clean them out as well as heal what you already have. It is light and not sticky, which is perfect!

The Organic Skin Brightening moisturizer is also a treat for those of us suffering with the brown spots left over from past blemishes, and those dreaded sun spots. This has quickly perked my face up and left those spots a thing of the past! I used to use Retin-A creams and although this might take a little longer it is just as effective, and well a zillion times safer!

I didn’t test the Tangerine Cocoa Belly Cream. First I don’t have a growing baby in my belly, but I knew someone that did and she raves about this cream. Said that it is silky but doesn’t leave a greasy mess behind. I know that is important and who doesn’t love the smell of a perfectly ripe tangerine?

Novena also offers a very cool guarantee policy, if you aren’t satisfied, you will get a full refund!

Novena Maternity has offered up the same bag and same goodies to one Prissy Green Reader! Simply go to Novena Maternity and tell me one fact you learned. Try to list something that isnt already stated here. thanks!

I really enjoyed the article posted regarding harmful ingredients in personal care products. It was very informative, and I believe you are absolutely correct about the negative impact that these chemicals can have on our bodies. I have discovered several amazing reports to validate your position, and I think you would find the information fascinating. I would love to discuss this further with you. Please email me at your earliest convenience at tdeann24@gmail.com. One report in particular is very serious in nature and was documented on CNN. I’ll send you a link.

Wow, I learned an earful, or rather eyeful, LOL! I learned that Parabens:

Known as a group of artificial preservatives that are also known as Alkyl parahydroxy benzoates – butyl/methyl/ethyl/ propyl/isobutyl paraben.
    Evidence has shown them to:

    • mimic estrogens in the body
    • penetrate through the skin and show up in the blood.
    • found in breast tumours.

When I looked at some of the products in our bathroom right now, guess what? Yup, un, huh, they contain Parabens, guess they are going in the trash, I’ll have to find natural products to replace them with from now on!

Wow, I learned that Phthalates Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and or di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP or BzBP)

They are found in products such as : hair sprays, perfumes, nail polishes. They are used to soften plastic, skin moisturisers and for skin penetration enhancers in cosmetics.

    Research has indicated:

    • They are known to cause serious reproductive and developmental effects in lab animals.
    • They have been linked to premature breast development in young girls and has shown interference with reproductive
    development in male fetuses.
    • They are hormone disruptors.

Scary, scary, scary, especially for a mom of an 11 year old that developed way too early, now I know why!
