Nutiva Review and Giveaway

YUM! As my mom says, and well everyone else, I eat some strange foods sometimes. I have been known to saute a bag of frozen Okra with a tablespoon of Coconut Oil and eat that for dinner. That doesn’t work so well now that the mister and I live together, he likes meat for dinner. lol.
I was originally drawn to Nutiva for the Hemp Oil and Shelled Hemp Seeds,
as I had heard really good things about the nutritional quality. But when they also offered to send me their Coconut Oil who was I to say no? We were out and it would give me a chance to go back to my Coconut Okra specialty some night! I also want to mention that there is not THC in these Hemp products, which is what makes people get “high” off of smoking marijuana, so consuming these will not give you any sort of a buzz expect that ever present happy belly food buzz!
The Hemp Oil is fantastic as an addition to Olive Oil in salads, it adds a nutty flavor and takes a little of the bite out of acidity in some dressing mixes we use.
Hemp Oil is a great source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, out bodies do not product EFA’s and we generally get an overabundance of Omega 6 in the US, so getting a source that just contains Omega 3 is fantastic!
I used it on My Asparagus and Tomato Salad. It was great. It added a nice nutty flavor. I used about 1/3 Hemp Oil and 2/3 of Olive Oil. I almost used the Hemp Seeds too, but figured that might be over kill. I have been using seeds on all my salads though. If you use a really acid based dressing you can barely taste them, but if you use a light dressing they really make the salad. They are really tiny and you can sneak them in too!
And their Nutiva Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil:
* Certified organic and non-GMO
* Made from fresh coconuts, not dried copra
* Cold-processed
* Unrefined
* Chemical-free
* Unfermented *
* Unbleached
* Undeodorized
* Unhydrogenated
* Pure white like fresh coconut
* Tastes like fresh coconut
* Has a fresh coconut fragrance
* Made with our Fresh is Best â„¢ commitment
Use this for cooking, apply to wounds, dry skin and so much more! Their Coconut oils is EXCELLENT! It has such a fresh flavor and it is really smooth. I recommend it for smoothies!
Baby formulas often include pure coconut oil as an ingredient because coconut is such a healthy super food. Virgin coconut oil is rich in the essential fatty acids, the “good fats” that doctors recommend and is cholesterol – and trans fat-free.
Health Properties of Lauric Acid
One of the “good fats†that makes up about 50% of coconut oil, is lauric acid. Lauric acid is a rare medium-chain fatty acid found in mother’s milk. It is now being shown to have anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial health-protecting properties. Some researchers predict that lauric acid will one day become as well known in health circles as Omega-3 is today.
As studies reveal the downsides of consuming too many Omega-6 vegetable oils with their saturated fatty acids, coconut oil is making a comeback. We suggest consuming 3 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil a day.

i learned about GMO’s Currently GMO crop pollens are blown across fields and often cross-pollinate non-GMO crops. To date the agricultural biotech industry has not taken responsible measures to deal with this situation. Due to our concern, Nutiva established a non-GMO audit trail to reduce the chances that Nutiva products may contain genetically modified organisms.

I learned that: “Unlike marijuana, hemp contains only minute (less than 1%) amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. In addition, hemp possesses a high percentage of the compound cannabidiol (CBD), which has been shown to block the effects of THC. For these reasons, many botanists have dubbed industrial hemp “anti-marijuana.”

Hemp was cultivated in China more than 6,000 years ago, from a wild plant that grew in central Asia. The Chinese recognized hemp’s amazing nutritional value, and used it as a food source long before soy foods. About a thousand years ago, hemp traveled to Europe, where peasants used the plant in several ways, one of the most popular being the making of hemp butter by grinding the tasty seeds.
