Gaylord Nelson may not be a household name, but his environmental achievement certainly is. Considered the grandfather of Earth Day, Nelson, a
then Wisconsin senator, was troubled that the degradation of the environment was a political non-issue. Following a national conservation tour lead by President Kennedy in 1963, one that sparked minimal political interest, Nelson took to a grassroots effort to mobilize a nationwide environmental protest.

Six years later, at a Seattle conference, Nelson announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide demonstration on behalf of the environment and urged everyone to participate. His vision swept across our nation and finally gave people a voice to express their concerns about our land, oceans, forests and lakes. In its inaugural year, 20 million people participated in Earth Day, which has now grown to an estimated 500 million in 175 countries.

As i am sure some of you have realized this sunday is going to make the begining of Earth Day week here at Prissy Green and well everywhere really!
