Thrifty Thursday Make Your Own Deodorant! Simple and Effective

This is a really easy recipe, and normally I always try them out before I post them, But I am still using and loving my Pit Putty by Bubble and Bee.

This recipe is very and simple and effective!

1. Hang on to you last deodorant container!

2. Clean the container, and roll it back down.

3. Buy some Virgin unrefined coconut oil and baking soda. If you can’t find the coconut oil locally, buy 92 degree oil, which is solid at room temperature. Coconut oil contains powerful antimicrobials that fight odor-causing bacteria without impairing sweat functions. Do not use anything with additives, you want pure, unrefined, virgin coconut oil!

4. Warm approx 1/2 cup of the oil in a double boiler, or use my pot with hot water and a glass bowl on top frugal way. lol

5. Thoroughly mix in 1/3 cup of baking soda. It should dissolve completely. Some people say that they use less, some more. If you use too much, it can be too strong, causing redness, so start with a little bit. Baking soda is generally mild, acts to absorb odor, and when suspended in oil, it’s usefulness lasts all day long. Mix slowly as it cools. You can put ice under the bowl to accelerate cooling.

6. Pour the mixture in the empty roll-up, put the cap on and refrigerate in an upright position. You may not want to leave this in the bathroom if yours gets really warm, or if you house gets warm in the summer, you may want to keep it in the fridge, it will melt if it gets too hot.

ta da!

Enjoy, if I make this anytime soon i will update you!

What a great recipe, I’m going to try making this, since I have some coconut oil in my fridge that I don’t know what to do with.

Sounds great! I am a big fan of coconut oil.

Would you have any way to make natural shampoo? I really would love to be able to make my own safe shampoo that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!

I’d like to try this, only am wondering if the oil might stain your clothes? Or does it absorb in completely? Thanks for another natural recipe!
