Make it Monday! Flea repellant!

This is Bayles and me. this picture is pretty old, she despises getting her picture taken.

It is that time of year, for the most part frosting is over, and fleas will be out and hunting for your fur babies! So what can you do? The prescriptions you get at the Vet cause nerve issues in fleas and that is why they work, so don’t you think to some degree that is interfering with your babies nerves too? What about you and your kids? You don’t stop petting your Furbabies after you use these.

There are safer and effective solutions and I have a few to share with you!

Citrus Wash:
To make a fur rub for the dog, cut up 4 lemons, and simmer for one hour in 1 quart of water, adding more water as it evaporates. Cool the mixture, strain, and massage into the dog’s coat. You may need to do this 2-3 times a week.

For Cats and Dogs
Herbal repellents work well to repel fleas. Make an herbal infusion by adding a handful of dried herbs (available in most health food stores) to a tea pot and fill with boiling water. Let the “tea” set overnight, and then strain it into a spray bottle. Recommended herbs include southernwood, rue, rosemary, sage, catmint, eucalyptus, and leaves from the black walnut tree. Start with just a small amount to make sure the pet can tolerate the herb.

If you prefer a dry method (or rather your kitty and pup prefer a dry method) try this!
Natural Flea Control Recipe

Combine one part of as many of the following powdered herbs as possible:
* Eucalyptus
* Rosemary
* Fennel
* Yellow Dock
* Wormwood
* Rue
Put mixture in shaker-top jar. Apply the flea powder to your dog’s fur by brushing backwards and sprinkling it into the base of the hair (especially focus on the neck, back and belly). Immediately take your dog outside so the vacating fleas don’t wind up on your floor. Use this natural flea control recipe as frequently as necessary, up to many times per week for more serious infestations.

You can also sprinkle Borax around the areas that the animals tend to stick to or sleep in. spread this in a very thin layer and vacuum up every few days.

A lot of people will tell you to feed your dog garlic and brewer’s yeast. I personally don’t take issue with yeast but garlic really isn’t good for dogs.

Natural diatomaceous earth is also a product that you can sprinkle in the carpet and around bedding and even on your pet to prevent and get rid of fleas.

I WISH YOU LUCK!!! So far we have been safe from issues in our house but they had a bad case of fleas one year, poor babies!

Your my boy Bleu!

    Oh i hope this works! I am willing to try anything. We dealt with fleas bad last year. I have 3 dogs and have tried everything. The stuff from the vets only seems to work for about a week and like most i hate putting chemicals on them. Thanks for the info!

    These are just in time! I saw the first flea this week, and our poor little doxie is really old. We hate the idea of putting anything on him that could hurt him. We’ll definitely be trying the citrus wash, he’ll smell good too! Thanks for yet another great make it!

    thanks so much for this! i HATE using products like Frontline and Advantage, they never seem to work as long as they are supposed to, they are outrageously expensive, and i hate the fact that i am essentially poisoning my poor Oliver! you are brilliant!
