Do you want to see what I am planting in my garden this year? I just had a ball ordering seeds and well plants from Amazon! I was going to grow everything from seed but when a seed packet costs the same amount as the plant and I only need one plant, well it makes more sense to go ahead and buy the plant!
I got everything organic and some new varity to add in these year, First time trying carrots and Romaine lettuce (first time for lettuce at all!)
Last year was my first garden EVER!!! We never had one growing up, and I always thought I was a brown thumb but I guess getting older and more mature has helped me figure out that plants need water and not everyday! HA!

I am going to build a square foot garden with help from the mister this year. have you heard of Square Foot Gardening? Really cool. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1591862027?tag=priss-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=1591862027&adid=1J6F9J204RPEHG98M2M4& Here is the link to the book. I will try and keep you updated with the garden process.
I have 16 spots, so some of those seeds will be doubled up. I am going to use an empty egg carton to start my seedlings and then transplant when ready.
I would love to start a compost but with the dogs and way our house is set up I just don’t think it would work unless I bought one of those big tubs that I can wind around to turn.
Okay so here is everything I am planting to take up my 16 spots.
2 romaine
1 Cilantro
1 Basil
1 square for carrots
2 cucumber
2 Heirloom tomatoes
1 yellow tomato
2 Cherry tomatoes
4 Pepper plants
I would eventually love to do Squash and Zucchini but I am really the only one that eats those and since they are so late in the summer I will wait, Next year maybe I will build two Square gardens!
If anyone has any helpful tips or information they want to share please feel free! I only have 1 year under my belt so I always appreciate it.

My husband and I had our first garden a couple of eyars ago.We are not gardeners although I admit I do have a green thumb. We do come from a long line of gardeners. My fathers family were true country people. They lived a simple life because they had to.They killed their meat and grew their vegetables. They had a curing house and all. They didn’t have a indoor bathroom until way after I was born.Anyway I am getting carried away but my grandmothers house was one of my favorite places in the world. My best memories are there. We never watched tv there we were always outside,my grandfather whittling or playing the guitar.Us kids eating fruits and vegetables from the garden. My grandmother “poppin” peas or beans. It was heaven there. My grandmother grows the best tomatoes I have ever put in my mouth. She says she does nothing special but yummy! I think she grows early girls maybe?
Anyway back to our garden dh and I planted squash and cucumbers amoung other things and we just let them go.We had squash and cucumbers out the wahooo. It may have been the soil here in TN.
I didnt help much and sorry for taking over your blog, lol.
I just read the book this winter and am going to try this gardening style myself! I’m only doing 1 “square” since I couldn’t keep up with a garden before. I figured that surely I could do well with one 4×4 spot…lol. If all goes well, I’ll do 2 next year!
It sounds like you’re going to have a wonderful garden this year!
I wanted to let you know I gave you an award on my blog. Come check it out!
Put your tomato cages on early, so you don’t have to bruise baby tomatoes.
Give the cucumbers something to climb too.
When your lettuce is ready for harvest, wash it well in ice water, shake dry and put it in plastic ziplock bags in the crisper. It will last for quite a while.
Good luck! And it sounds like you have all the makings for salsa too!
