Honest Tea’s Honest Kid Drink Pouches, Review and Giveaway!

March 20, 2009 by Karissa

Do you feel like when you give your kids pure juice you are just loading them with sugar and just a step away from a sugar laden Kool-aide type drink?

Well Honest Kid has the answer!
~ Honest Kids are USDA-certified organic thirst quenchers that come in three delicious flavors: Berry Berry Lemonade, Goodness Grapeness and Tropical Tango Punch (apple coming soon!)
~ Honest Kids contains half the sugar (organic cane sugar, that is) of most kids’ drinks and NO high fructose corn syrup
~ Honest Kids are only 40 calories per serving and provide 100 percent of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C
~ Honest Kids are available nationwide at: Whole Foods Markets, Target, Babies “R” Us, Costco and Sam’s Club
~ Honest Kids come in 6.75 fl oz lunchbox-friendly drink pouches that are sold in boxes of 8 pouches ($4.99) and an exclusive 24-pouch variety pack at Sam’s Club ($8.56)

I tried all three flavors and man o man, they are tasty! They don’t leave you feeling like you need to drink water after wards to really quench your thirst either, they do the job! I thought the Goodness Grapeness would be my favorite but to be honest (pun intended) I can’t pick a favorite! They aren’t quite as strong and potent as most juice drink pouches, they don’t have nearly as much sugar and frankly, they just taste better!

~ Honest Kid is working toward a healthier environment by partnering with TerraCycle and Capri Sun to combat drink pouch waste and encourage environmental awareness in kids. Each year, more than 4 billion drink pouches end up in landfills, the Honest Kids Drink Pouch Brigde is a program that collects, “upcycles” and transforms used/empty drink pouches into inexpensive, fashionable schools supplies that are sold at select Target, Walgreens and Office Max stores across the country. For each Honest Kids drink pouch that is collected, Honest Kids donates .02 to the school, organization or family’s charity of choice. Since 2007, over 11,000 collection sites have been established across the country, more than 500,000 drink pouches (HK and Capri Sun) have been saved from landfills and over $25,000 (from HK and Capri Sun) have been donated to a variety of charities. For more information about the Honest Kids Drink Pouch Brigade, visit: www.terracycle.net/dpb

~ The Honest Kids Variety Pack for Sam’s is a great value and it’s eco-friendly design (reduced 3 boxes with shrink wrap to 1, eliminated plastic shrink wrap, box made of 35% post consumer waste, handle made of 45% post consumer waste, messaging that encourages environmental awareness to kids, etc) is unique and functional, especially for a club store offering.

I just love that not only have they stepped up to bring your kids a great drink alternative but they are also helping to make kids aware of the environment and how trash affects it.

Honest Tea has offered to have one reader win a full 24 pouch variety pack of Organic Honest Kids drink pouches!

    I learned :

What is EGCG and why is it important?
Epigallocatechin gallate (or EGCG for short) is a powerful antioxidant. Like other antioxidants, it works by binding to the harmful free radicals in the body, neutralizing their activity and helping maintain good health. EGCG is considered among the most potent antioxidants, with binding activity 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E. EGCG is associated with numerous health benefits, including the prevention of heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s and cancer. For further information on the health benefits of antioxidants check out the American Institute for Cancer Research website at http://www.aicr.org
