Vitamin D3, the Cause of Your Fatigue?

First let me apologize for not being around the last few days. I just wasn’t feeling up to snuff. And being new to this blogging biz, I struggle with what to write and will you guys all dig it. 8-)

So i have heard over and over lately that if there is one supplement people should take it is Vitamin D. I always thought it would be a multi-vitamin. But with all of us shading ourselves, spending less time sunning, and wearing sunscreen pretty religiously we have all basically started this Vitamin D deficiency epidemic of some sort.

More importantly when I looked further into it, D3 (aka cholecalciferol) was even more the Culprit. Vitamin D3 is produced in skin exposed to sunlight, specifically ultraviolet B radiation. What i found even more thought provoking, is that a deficiency in this can lead to joint pain, fatigue, depression, not to mention Osteoporosis. There is even more. Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Psoriasis, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Kidney Stones EVEN CANCER.

Some studies have linked this deficiency to Althiemhers as well as Parkinson’s, we know they are lacking in the Vitamin, but the studies, from what I read, haven’t been suffciently proven. But if you know someone with a Neuro-degenerative disease, it wouldn’t hurt them to start taking this. the cost is cheap too!

Foods: Fortified Milk
Fatty Fish, such as herring, mackerel, sardines, salmon, tuna, eel
Eggs
beef liver

I know one thing. I drink a lot of milk, eat a fair amount of cheese, but don’t eat near the amount of fish I used to eat when i was single. My boyfriend is allergic (so he says, i think he just says that cause he doens’t like it) But I know I must be lacking.

I am going to start taking 6000 IUs of Vitamin D3 a day. Your RDA is only 400, but from all the research I have read, no one suggests anything even near that low, especially if you suspect a defciency. Maybe when summer comes around I will see how I am feeling back it off to around 2000-4000 IU. But it is a very safe supplement to take. One very important piece of advice, a frugal one at that. Don’t look specifically for Vit D3, you will pay more, just check the label, for cholecalciferol, if that is listed you are all set. I saw the price change from about $7 to $21 when I was looking around, just for the ease of finding the name D3.

I will most certainly let you know about my progress! Everytime I move my boyfriend laughs at my, he thinks I am falling apart, we play the Wii, and says, everytime I move, i snap crackle and pop. I am tired of being tired too! I really hope this is going to help!

I hope this helps one of you too! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am not a Doctor by any means!

So glad I found your blog! We give the alpacas A,D, & E gel if they have crooked legs. People who live up North with less sun give it during the Winter. Me, I just need more sleep. :)

I was actually just talking about this with a friend. We are all inside so much now, and totally slather on the sunscreen (I don’t want wrinkles!) that I have never seen myself as white as I am now. I used to be the tannest kid on the block, but now am one of the palest. I hate milk, add that to my limited sun exposure and I’m pretty sure I’ve got a deficiency myself. I’ll have to check this stuff out and see if it improves my running!
