taken straight from the blog:
“This month we are launching my newly-reformulated skincare line. I really love it. Our skincare has always been great, and now it’s even better. You’ll see a few products now have the USDA organic seal. And every ingredient is either certified organic or approved by EcoCert, a European based company that examines the environmental-friendly attributes of raw materials.

And all of my formulas now pass the Whole Foods Premium Labeling program. This is quickly becoming the industry standard for organic and natural ingredients.

Each skincare product has been reformulated with performance in mind. So not only are they all more organic, they will perform as well or better than the formulas they are replacing. The certified-organic extracts and essential oils are the best to be found, and the aromas are beautiful yet subtle.

And they all use two great, new preservatives. Radish root extract and aspen bark extract are all-natural anti-microbials that are years ahead in skincare formulations. I’m so proud to be among the first to use them.

Radish Root Extract

This natural preservative derived from Korean Leuconostoc kimchii is an effective microbial and protects against bacteria and fungus. The radish root is harvested from non-GMO stock and is extracted without the use of industrial solvents. It’s compliant with both USDA and EcoCert regulations.

Aspen Bark Extract

This natural preservative is extracted from the American aspen tree. Medicinally, the bark has long been used as an analgesic and to reduce fevers. The bark of the aspen tree is rich in salicylates, which help defend against invading parasites. The extract is effective at inhibiting mold, yeast and other bacteria. In addition, the extract also acts to help make the skin feel smooth.

These and all the ingredients in my new skincare products are hand-selected and mixed beautifully to create results you’ll notice and love.”

WOW! I am already in love! I might just have to go ahead and buy the Moroccan Face mask now!

Make Your Own Body Scrub! Coconut Vanilla

January 28, 2009 by Karissa
Filed under Recipes: Home, Skin, Food

If you are feeling dry this is a excellent scrub to try. This is a salt and sugar mix that I love! I love salt scrubs because the granules don’t melt but sugar is a little more gentle on the skin, so why not combine the two!

all you need:
1/3 cup of Organic Olive Oil (go for an off brand or order on Ebay! I get a lot of my beauty supplies off Ebay for way cheap!)
1/3 cup Virgin Unrefined Coconut oil don’t be surprised this has to be nearly 80 degrees to melt, so when you get it, it will most likely be a solid.
1/3 cup of table salt
1/3 cup Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (organic if you can find it!)

Ok here is the kicker, place in a container and mix! yep folks that is it. Use a spatula and mix the goo up! Doesn’t it smell good!??

Now when you shower clean yourself first, then use this glorious body scrub. Rinse off and chances are you won’t need a moisturizer! the oils should be enough! This is too harsh for your face so please don’t try it there, but great for feet and elbows and well anywhere you need some good scrubbin!

I was going to post a picture but mine is in a salsa jar… and well it looks pretty silly!

Enjoy!!!

Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual GIVEAWAY! **CLOSED**

Just because we are all trying to be more natural and more “green” doesn’t mean that we can’t still get all made up! There are many brands of makeup that are safe and effective.

I have a 3 in one tube of color from Kiss My Face that I just adore. you can use it as blush, eyeshadow and lip color. I also love their 2 in one tinted moisturizer.

And what about all these Mineral Makeups? You just have to check the label! I love my Bare Escentuals foundations. You can make it full coverage or light coverage depending on how much you use. I have yet to try a “generic” that I like as much. The Key to mineral makeup is make sure you face is not moist from your moisturizer at all. Use your towel and blot your face before you apply. I love it. helps me cover this stupid adult acne like a miracle!!

Tarte also has a great line of products. and they practice Green packaging! They have wonderful cheek stains and lip glosses and foundations too. Not all are 100% free and natural so you do need to check the labels a little.

So in celebration of the Bloggy Carnival I have decided to give you a chance to win Bobbi Brown: Makeup Manual, this book is terrific for beginner to experienced makeup artists, and believe me I flipped through it and being a “retired” makeup artist myself it has tons of great information. From Eyebrows to lips to cheekbones.

So to win you must be in the US. (sorry! this is sponsored my me only and shipping is just too $)

Leave me a comment telling me something you want to learn from my blog. This is a must, if you don’t do this you will not be entered.

**sorry in advance my layout is still not finished, I was supposed to get a new blog design a long time ago but it has been delayed for some reason, thanks for understanding!**

TGIF! Think Green It’s Friday!!

January 23, 2009 by Karissa

Last year we were informed that the old Nalgalene bottles were found to be dangerous. eww. I had several of these and used them all the time! They were found to be dangerous for causing cancer through a compound helped to make them, BPA’s (Bisphenol-A).

The mister and I had also just decided to stop buying plastic water bottles. Even though we recycle them it seemed like such a waste. Including soda bottles, only about 23% are every recycled.

I had noticed this company Let’s Go Green.biz on a few blogs and decided to poke around there and see what kind of bottles I could get that would be safe and economical. Basically we wanted something that we could fill up with our New Brita Filter and place in the fridge to get cold. Rinse>repeat.

I was in heaven looking at everything on Let’s Go Green.biz! They have laundry soap, fabric softener, compostable plates and cups and serving dishes and all sorts of cleaning supplies! Plus I found my beloved Camel Back BPA free bottles there.

Not to mention a plethora of recycled paper goods. And fantastic water conserving items. a complete kit to help you to stop wasting water! it is amazing. Low flow shower heads, we have one and believe me, you do not notice the difference. A toilet tank bank that helps you to conserve water in the toilets and filters you can put on your sink to reduce their flow too!
And one of my favorites Bio-degradable trash bags! I have tried more then a few things from them and I have yet to be disappointed in the quality.

I would say in general we place an order every 2-3 months to get all of our needs.
The Mister and I love our bottles. I have a green one and he has a blue one, although I think it might be called gray… we are rarely without them. We know if we are getting enough water or if we need to add more to our day because they are half liter bottles with measurements on the side. They are perfect!

They also have an amazing Fundraising Program that is easy to join. Then you can add your kids school, or soccer league and let all the parents and grandparents know and when they place orders and use that program they get part of the funds. They have more information on their website about all the details. How great is that?

Go on over and check them out. I think you might find something you can use to help your home become more green this year!

YUM YUM Salmon Tacos!!

January 21, 2009 by Karissa
Filed under Recipes: Home, Skin, Food

I love Salmon. I also can eat my weight in Mexican and we don’t even need to talk about the frozen concoctions we all call margaritas. The Mister has those mastered. And makes them with all natural ingredients. I will post that recipe here someday. (damn they are good!)

Here is a great little taco recipe that is lightening speeds healthy above any red meat taco. And if you are a Gindling, as I am, you know that adding corn to your tacos makes them 1000 times better. Please don’t knock it, just try it. I promise you will too become a believer, and chances are you are trying to get a child or a husband to eat more veggies anyways.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 14 oz. can salmon, drained
  • 16 oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup salsa verde (green salsa)
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded Muenster cheese or 2% mexican mix
  • 1 avocado, peeled and diced
  • 8 taco shells
  • taco toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, green onion)
  • Small can of white or yellow corn, drained

Preparation:

Heat taco shells as directed on package. In a skillet add salmon over low heat. add cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, chili, smoked paprika all to your spicy or non-spicy taste. This saves you SO MUCH IN SALT! augh. those packets of taco seasoning are horrible! YOu will figure out just how much you need of each to make it just how your family wants it. Now combine all other ingredients except taco shells in medium bowl. Make tacos with heated shells, salmon and taco ingredients. Serves 4
